Mental Health nursing offers a completely different experience than caring for patients with only physical health-related problems. It's easy to forget that, in some cases, a patient's decline in physical health can negatively impact their mental health as well, but that doesn't mean their treatment is any less complex. Psych nursing offers skilled nurses the opportunity to care for vulnerable patients and themselves through self-reflection, and introspection. In essence, these nurses and patients find strength in each other.
Patients on this unit are dealing with difficult diagnoses. Our ideal nursing candidate will have the proven ability to exercise patience, flexibility, and careful listening when their efforts are often tested. This nurse will strive to calm patients when they become agitated, strengthen patients coping skills, and make it a build a therapeutic, meaningful relationship.
All Registered Nurses answer their call to care for others through education and training, but only a select few have the ability and confidence to test their preparation in a service line where challenges and the rewards run high. Rising to the occasion also opens advancement opportunities within the department.
