Job Summary
The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the organization. The nurse maintains the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The nurse facilitates the coordination of patient care within the interdisciplinary care team and provides patient education to assure safe patient discharge.
Essential Job Functions
Provides care which is appropriate to the patient’s diagnoses, symptoms, and physician orders. Directs and oversees care provided by Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and aides.
Establishes and implements a documented plan of care. Determines appropriate outcomes/goals.
Communicates and collaborates with the patient, interdisciplinary team, and physicians in providing care.
Promotes patient/caregiver education using various verbal and written communication techniques that take into account the patient’s/caregiver’s cultural, ethnic, and personal needs or preferences
Documents patient/caregiver responses to care, treatment, and services, including progress towards goals.
Identifies discharge planning needs as early as possible and initiates needed referrals to other disciplines, alternative level of care, or community resources as needed.
Complies with Joint Commission, federal and state regulations, reimbursement guidelines, and Altru Health System and Altru Home Services policies and procedures.
Performs pain assessment and takes appropriate action according to standard operating procedure.
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization. Demonstrates understanding and follows infection control policies and procedures according to standard operating procedure.
- Maintains requirements for age specific competencies for the position and demonstrates the knowledge or principles of growth and developments and the skills necessary to provide patient/customer care/services.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of and compliance with:
- All pertinent safety, health and environmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Working safely, without causing harm or risk to self, others or property.
- The work environment safety procedures and prompt reporting of unsafe practices, procedures, accidents, injuries or other safety violations to the Leader
- The use of all safety equipment and personal protective equipment.
License, Certification & Registration
Registered Nurse - North Dakota Board of Nursing (NDBON) or Compact State Agreement; Prior to Start Date
Registered Nurse - Minnesota Board of Nursing; Within 6 Months of Start Date
Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross CPR for Prof. Rescue; Within 2 Months of Start Date
Driver's License with Clear Driving Record; Prior to Start Date
Knowledge & Skills
A minimum of 1 year of related experience Required
