Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Registered Nurse (RN) for the Inpatient Psychiatry unit functions include: providing direct care and support for patients and their families, working with the interdisciplinary treatment team in a collegial manner, and at times taking charge of the unit and making decisions on the delivery of patient care during the shift.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Major functions why this position exists.


Performed majority of the time - please start with the responsibilities that are the most time consuming:


  • Participates in the admission and orientation of patients and families to the program.
  • Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing systematic manner.
  • Administers routine and PRN medication as ordered and transcribes orders.
  • Documents in an accurate and concise manner, using BIO charting and charts to the behavior.
  • Implements patient care based on identified priorities.
  • Provides care appropriate to the age of patients served.
  • Supervises and coordinates patient care activities of coworkers/technical staff.
  • Assists in the maintenance of safe and therapeutic milieu.
  • Identifies patient/family learning needs and implements appropriate measures to meet these needs.


Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job:


  • Attends and participates in departmental staff meetings and in-services.
  • Attends and participates in designated treatment team meetings on matters concerning the patient and/or family
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Remains flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts.
  • Performs clerical duties as required or assigned.

Education:


Required


  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Nursing. **Current RN employees as of 1/27/2020 will be grandfathered back to the previous education requirement at their time of original hire.**

  • One (1) year or more of recent psychiatric and/or long term care.
  • Med/Surg. experience.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

  • Valid license as a Registered Nurse granted by the State of Oregon.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS.

  • Takes appropriate precautions to assure personal and patient safety.
  • Geri-Psych competencies required for all RN’s working on the unit within the first 90 days of hire are:

o Suicide Assessment and Prevention (CSSR Training)

o Patient Safety and Observation

o Psychopharmacology

o Intake and Pre-admission assessment

o Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) Training

o RNs over one (1) year experience in Psych – one (1) hour Face to Face.
