Job Description
Overview: M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center represents an integrated academic health care system and is comprised of two hospitals and dozens of adult specialty clinics on both the East and West banks of the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis. It is the flagship facility of Fairview providing breakthrough medicine and transforming the health of our community.


The Float Pool:

  • Consists of RNs and Nursing Station Technicians.
  • The adult float pool RNs consist of two groups- medical/surgical RNs and specialty care RNs. The medical/surgical RNs float to the following units: inpatient medical, orthopedics, acute rehabilitation unit, transitional care unit, and may also float to the newborn family care center. The specialty care RNs are able to float to the medical/surgical units as well as the adult emergency department and ICU. Specialty care RNs function in the role of flyer in which they work as an adult hospital resource, serving any adult nursing need that arises on UMMC West Bank. The Adult Flyer is also ACLS certified and is able to offer assistance in critical situations.
This position works 72 hours in a 2 week period on a day shift 12 hour shifts and every third weekend. This position is benefit eligible including loan repayment. Responsibilities/Job Description: The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedure and professional practice guidelines. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.

  • Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes.
  • Develops an individualized nursing plan of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions based on the plan of care.
  • Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.
  • Uses communication strategies to achieve desirable outcomes.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
Qualifications: Required:
  • MN RN License
  • BLS

Preferred:
  • BSN
