KOOTENAI HEALTH – PROGRESSIVE CARE FELLOWSHIP
The Kootenai Health RN Fellowship program is an extremely competitive, 9 month, full-time program that prepares nurses for specialty areas of nursing care. At this time, the Progressive Care team will select internal applicants to join their team through the RN Fellowship. Those selected for the program are on a fast track to gaining the knowledge and skill needed to become an experienced nurse in Progressive Care. Fellowship RNs will work in Progressive Care and participate in an aggressive blend of classroom education and accelerated clinical experiences.

Progressive Care Highlights
- Total of 29 patient beds.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration with hospitalists, intensivists, cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and vascular surgeons.
- One of the busiest heart centers in the Pacific Northwest including a Cardiac Cath Lab, EP lab and IR lab offering progressive industry technology including TAVR procedures.
- Staffing 3:1 for high acuity patients – ETOH withdrawal, post-op day 2/3 for post open hearts, respiratory failure, TAVR and TCAR patients with arterial lines. Staffing 4:1 for lower acuity patients.
- Highly engaged team with many options to be involved and have your voice heard.
As a Progressive Care RN, you will:
- Be responsible for evaluating, planning, implementing, and documenting nursing care for Critical Care patients.
- Assist physicians during examinations and procedures
- Perform various patient tests and administer medications within your scope of practice
- Promote patient's independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patients and their family to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of 6 months RN work experience at Kootenai Health
- Continue employment with Kootenai Health for 36 months after completing the program.
- Obtain a specialty certification in chosen nursing specialty (such as PCCN or CHFN) within 24 months of completing the RN Fellowship program.
- Demonstrate commitment to professional development through completion of/ enrollment in educational courses, classes, and certifications applicable to specialty care area.
- Demonstrate commitment to Kootenai's mission through stewardship, education, and research as evidence (d) by active participation in committees, councils, or improvement projects. Minimum of 6 months of participation.
