The Registered Nurse is assigned clinical and/or managerial responsibilities based on educational preparation, licensing laws and regulations, competency and patient needs. "Patient needs" based assignments are made in accordance with the complexity and dynamics of the condition of each patient, age of patient, cultural, spiritual and religious practices, emotional needs/barriers, desire and motivation, physical and/or cognitive limitations, language barriers and the complexity of the assessment required by the patient. This includes the type of technology employed in providing care and factors that must be considered to make appropriate decisions regarding the provision of care.
The charge nurse will also be responsible for the following in addition to working with the management team to ensure proficient workflow:
- Serve as a role model for patient advocacy
- Prioritize/delegate exceptionally well in stressful situations
- Complete performance evals
- Complete patient rounding
- Scheduling infusion staff
- Onboarding new staff
- Participate in clinical best practice
- Hold staff accountable
- Must maintain competence in BLS/ACLS after initial training.
- A calm, pleasant, professional demeanor is expected.
- Must have the ability to work cooperatively with all staff, physicians and departments.

- Interpersonal skills necessary to instruct and comfort patients and their families, and maintain contacts with a variety of internal and external staff. Recognizes and reinforces positive efforts of the health care team/co-workers. Addresses issues in a tactful and timely manner.
- Experience as determined by work area and hospital in order to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of unit, departmental policies and procedures. Must fulfill established quality and quantity standards for the job.
- Education Required: Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s Degree required
- Licensure: Licensure in the State of Indiana as a Registered Nurse is required
- Must be willing to complete chemotherapy/biotherapy administration certification within 6 months of hire
