Description
The Risk Manager is a member of the Commercial Banking Risk team, which is the front line unit risk function for Citizens Commercial Banking. This incumbent will support various products and business units within Commercial Banking, which may include commercial loans, treasury management solutions, and capital markets capabilities. The incumbent is responsible, along with business unit management, for establishing and monitoring the risk program for all aspects of material risk related to how Commercial Banking develops, launches, sells and delivers products and services to customers. In consultation with the Director of Risk, determine if actions need to be taken to strengthen risk management or reduce risk given performance against the firm’s and the business unit’s risk profile and risk tolerance.
The Risk Manager is responsible:
- Developing and maintaining an effective end to end risk management program including risk identification, assessment and quantification, aggregation reporting, control adequacy and effectiveness assessment, monitoring of limit compliance, and control review and improvement for one or more segments of Commercial Banking product/capability groups and client and industry infrastructure.
- Ensuring the risk management framework, processes and practices executed comply with regulatory requirements and expectations and Citizens policy requirements.
- Responsible for the risk assessment and review of new business initiatives.
- May act as lead for exam for product / function under review.
- Maintains strong relationships with the second line of defense, Internal Audit and the Regulators.
- Serves as a technical expert on one or more business processes or regulatory areas impacting Commercial Banking.
- Responsible for working with business leaders to assess the risks associated with new business initiatives, and assessing the adequacy of controls to be implemented to mitigate any new risks taken on by the business line.
- Responsible for Risk Issue management, which includes partnering with business leaders to develop action plans that will deliver intended outcomes within defined timelines while identifying themes and related holistic remediation plans.
- Provides day to day support to the business unit(s) providing knowledge and expertise on the appropriate implementation of regulations, rules and industry standards through procedures, other guidelines, and industry best practices. In consultation with internal subject matter experts, provides regulatory expertise and solutions on complex risk and compliance issues based upon understanding of business unit's activities and products. Also acts as technical expert on one or more business processes or regulatory areas impacting Commercial Banking.
Qualifications
Experience and Skills:
- 5+ years risk management experience gained from working in financial services industry and with risk and control self assessment program elements
- Knowledge of best practices associated with identification, documentation and assessment of material risks and the identification, assessment of the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, and the risk and control self assessment process
- Knowledge of Commercial Banking within financial institutions; including best practices, regulatory requirements; and key processes, controls and exposure areas
- Experience in a financial institution or other organization that is under strong regulatory oversight and scrutiny, particularly within Commercial Banking
- Strong business writing skills
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization in small and large forums
- Project management skills to support multiple assignments on behalf of various stakeholders
- Proficient in use of MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint and Visio
Education:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Graduate degree or relevant professional designation preferred
