DESCRIPTION

Under the general supervision of the Workers' Compensation Disability Program Manager, the Risk Management/Workers' Compensation Assistant will be responsible for providing all administrative aspects of the Loss Prevention Program and Loss Prevention Fund Administration, including the determination of procedures, selection of methods and implementation of policy applications, as well as, long range planning for these programs. The incumbent will also be responsible for various case management duties including gathering and reviewing injury data to: 1) determine accurate statistical codes into iVOS (a claims database system), 2) submit qualified incidents to the State of California - Division of Workers' Compensation, and 3) enter appropriate incidents on the Cal-OSHA 300 log. Provide administrative support for Workers' Compensation Staff and the Campus Risk Manager.

  • Occasional overtime required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • General knowledge of California Workers' Compensation laws regarding eligibility for benefits and the benefits themselves (medical, temporary disability, permanent disability, job displacement vouchers and death benefits).

  • General knowledge of CAL-OSHA and Federal OSHA Regulations.

  • General knowledge of claims database systems.

  • Advanced computer skills and in-depth knowledge and experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and other MS Office products. Demonstrated experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation graphics software.

  • Demonstrated experience writing clear and concise memoranda and correspondence, including knowledge of grammar and format.

  • Ability to initiate and plan work from general concepts, and work independently exercising good judgment. Proven ability to organize and prioritize work to deal with a multiplicity of projects and demands.

  • Strong understanding of customer service and quality performance techniques and procedures and the ability to apply them in achieving quality and customer service goals.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, flexibility, and the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, administrators, staff, students, outside agencies and the general public. Proven ability to perform in a team environment working with diverse populations. Bilingual capability is a plus.

  • Ability to develop good working relationships with employees and campus departments. Ability to interact effectively with others at all levels and to exercise confidentiality. Ability to to maintain confidentiality and handle highly confidential matters and material with discretion.

  • Ability to identify, organize and prioritize work tasks and schedule work to be done. Demonstrated self motivation and dedication to meeting deadlines on task completion. Proven ability to work productively under the constant pressure of deadlines.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • DOJ/FBI and DMV background checks and clearances required prior to employment.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid CA Driver License and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
