Key Responsibility: Operations Management (55%)
- The ReStore Senior Operations Manager leads the donation processing team ensuring the coordination of the overall flow of donations into the store, including purchased and seasonal products. This “on the floor” work will be done in conjunction with a team of staff and volunteers to oversee merchandise flows from the back room to the show room in an efficient and timely manager. It includes providing an excellent donor & volunteer experience, fostering good relationship and building a quality base of donors & volunteers to ensure consistent flow and availability of materials. Further responsibilities include:
- Communicate, train, and reinforce ReStore operation procedures, safety policies, guidelines, performance standards with staff and others who are in the facility and property and provide clarity of direction for well-versed understanding, adherence, and operational excellence
- Manage ReStore facilities and assets to ensure the safety of employees, volunteers, customers, and others, ensuring that required licenses, signage, and other documentation are maintained
- Oversee fleet maintenance; ensure updated registration, insurance, and necessary truck maintenance is done on a regular basis
- Collaborate with procurement and experience teams to ensure right mix of merchandise is in the store
- Oversee scheduling, coordination, and planning of large donation events
- Establish, implement, and review policies and procedures for the safe, secure and high-quality performance of all aspects of ReStore logistics, operations, and processing
Key Responsibility: People Management (20%)
People management is essential to ReStore’s success and this role will provide leadership that drives an excellent ReStore experience, staff development, donations, sales, and profits of Chicago ReStores to further Habitat Chicago’s mission. This includes:
- Manage and lead staff, including: developing daily goals and tasks lists and annual job plans with professional development goals; mid-year and year-end performance reviews; and ensure staff schedule developed and updated regularly to ensure coverage
- Communicate, train, and reinforce organization and ReStore policies and procedures, including but not limited to safety, facility operations, OSHA, and personnel,
- Ensure the ReStore operations team is equipped with the appropriate knowledge, skills, abilities, and leadership to accomplish results and maintain employee, volunteer, and customer safety, supervision, and engagement Keep ReStore Director timely and appropriately informed of important and sensitive matters.
Key Responsibility: Planning, Logistics & Measurement (15%)
This role will also oversee project management of annual plan goals tied to improving logistics, processing, safety, and back room operations that increase efficiency, strengthen regulatory compliance, and improve overall operations. Further responsibilities include
- Develop annual operating budgets and recommend capital expenditures
- Participate in long-range planning and visioning for ReStore growth including the location search, functional design, staff development, and management of additional ReStore locations in the Chicago area
- Embrace technology solutions to effectively track and improve projects, productivity, logistics, impact, donors, inventory, and volunteers
- Implement and monitor systems for daily operations that ensure continuous improvement in communication, productivity, efficiency, safety, and satisfaction
- Provide ongoing operating reports for the ReStore Director to ensure plans and projections are on target
- Work collaboratively with the ReStore leadership team, developing strategies to integrate the ReStore’s team, operations, and programs with the broader Habitat Chicago organization
- Coordinate with Development team and Construction Manager on in-kind donation requests from area contractors, suppliers, and businesses

- Familiarity with warehouse equipment, such as a forklift (certification), pallet jacks, etc.
- Team building through positive and productive communications and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and tact
- Current authorization to work permanently in the United States
- Valid driver’s license
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree
- A minimum of four years of experience in retail/warehouse management or other relevant management
- Experience implementing goal-oriented operational strategies with a team
- Personal volunteer experience
