Job Description

Position Purpose:

The Restaurant Host is the first person to interact with arriving guests as they enter the restaurant. Hosts provide a warm greeting, determine the seating needs of the guest, and assist in take-away orders by taking orders, ringing into POS, accepting payment/making change, packaging and ensuring guests orders are handed over complete, correct and promptly.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Meet and greet guests as they enter the restaurant.
  • Manage the wait and seat guests utilizing a server seating chart and throughput software such as Yelp Guest Manager Plus
  • Support take-away operations
  • Bus tables
  • Close out guest checks and handle payments

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the company.

  • Perform any general cleaning tasks using standard restaurant cleaning products as assigned by supervisor to adhere to health standards.
  • Assist the bus person in clearing and resetting the tables when necessary.
  • Perform all assigned side work.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
  • Attend required meetings.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Must have basic knowledge of food and beverage preparations, service standards, guest relations and etiquette.
  • Knowledge of the appropriate table settings, service ware and menu items.
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language sufficient to understand menus and special promotions.
  • Ability to remember, recite and promote the variety of menu items.
  • Ability to operate a keyboard and learn Point of Sale procedures to pre-check order and close out the check.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

EDUCATION

  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Previous six (6) months to one year previous hosting or serving experience.
  • Prior restaurant experience preferred.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES

  • CA State Food Handlers permit.
