DESCRIPTION

Involves the restoration of patient's respiratory and pulmonary function; alleviates pain; plans and administers prescribed respiratory therapy. Conducts pulmonary functions tests, administers treatments, and completes discharge planning with other members of the patient's clinical team. Maintains compliance with federal, state and local legal and certification requirements. Serves as a respiratory clinical specialist for staff, nurses and physicians. May supervise respiratory therapists, and / or hold daily shift responsibility for department operations and assigning caseloads.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Functions as a lead and oversees a group of Respiratory Therapists; ensures work is performed accurately and efficiently. Assists with scheduling, timekeeping and training.
  • Assists respiratory therapy staff on the uses and instruction of more complex equipment. Assumes continuing responsibility for the quality of respiratory services provided. Usually handles the most complex cases.

· Develops, plans, and delivers training and educational materials for respiratory therapists and staff.· Mentors and assists with program development for students, interns, and trainees.

  • Researches best practices and recommends improvements or new models of practice across the continuum of care. Recommends ways to improve Respiratory department operations. Regularly serves on committees, representing Respiratory Services.
  • Mentors and assists therapists in providing patients with appropriate education about their clinical condition, treatment options, patient rights, and health management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience/training.

  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in the state of California.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Experience and proven knowledge in respiratory care theory and industry best practices.

  • Proven ability to apply knowledge and skills to recommend improvements to Respiratory operations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Clinical specialty certification.
  • Pediatric experience.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
