Prader Willi Homes (PWH) is seeking Caregivers who have the passion and experience in working with developmentally disabled individuals that enjoy interacting with and engaging residents.
PWH has been supporting individuals diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), a complex genetic disorder affecting appetite, growth, metabolism, cognitive function, and behavior. Our mission is to provide each resident with the opportunity to explore his/her highest potential of independence within a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment.
Residential Counselors (Caregivers) at PWH will find the work to be rewarding, fulfilling, and challenging with many career opportunities to learn and advance their skills as we provide extensive training and ongoing education.
A Day in the Life of a Caregiver
As a role model for the residents, the Caregiver will perform direct care functions to meet the needs of our residents, in group-home (residential) settings.
The Caregiver plays a key role by interacting with the residents, frequently, to promote the social, daily living, recreational, leisure, skill development, and personal care and hygiene needs of the residents.
The health, safety and welfare of our residents are of upmost importance and your role will be to observe and adhere to safety rules and regulations, including the use of safety and assistive equipment. In addition, your responsibility will be to protect residents’ rights and maintain all quality assurance standards.
What are my responsibilities as a Caregiver?
· Compassionate care and positive support while assisting residents with personal cares including dressing, personal hygiene, and administering medications
· Preparing meals from dietitian developed menus, and engaging in daily activities
· Caregivers will help plan and participate in social events or community outings with the residents, such as a day at the zoo, movies, or a hike in a park.
What do I need to be a qualified Caregiver?
- A passion for helping others; truly compassionate and caring
- HS Diploma, GED or HSED required.
- Must have a valid WI Driver's License and personal auto insurance
- Experience not required – paid training is offered, including the 4 CBRF (state certified) courses.
- Work experience that demonstrates reliability and willingness to learn.
- Must be able to drive a large passenger van (we train)
- Must be able to work every other weekend
- Effective communication skills
