The Susan Rosenberg lab in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics is hiring a research technician who would bring innovative thinking to solve problems. The candidate will work on a cutting edge project to develop new techniques to detect cancer and disease. The ideal candidate will have experience in cell culture, genomics, and mouse handling techniques, as well as excellent written, oral communication and organization skills. The Research Technician is expected to work autonomously under the direct supervision of the principal investigator.
Job Duties- Conducts routine laboratory molecular biology experiments including DNA extraction and staining, plasmid prep and cloning.
- Collects blood from mice by tail snip, cardiac puncture, etc. Mice surgery is preferred.
- Runs samples on flow cytometry and analyzes data with FlowJo.
- Performs immunophenotyping by flow cytometry.
- Harvests cell cultures and maintains cultures.
- Documents and analyzes results using graphs and statistical tools.
- Presents results and progress to PI and lab members weekly.
- Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Conducts literature searches and stays informed of the latest studies concerning DNA damage, blood biomarkers and cancer genomics.
- Operates and maintains laboratory equipments.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned with minimal supervision.
- Handles and performs experiments with bacterial cultures, human cell lines and mice.
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- One year of relevant experience.
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Willing to work with animals.
