A Research Technician position is available in Dr. Qi Wu's lab located at Children’s Nutrition Research Center, Baylor College of Medicine. The RT II will provide critical support for the research focusing on the neural control of feeding behavior and mechanisms of obesity and neurological disorders. The lab is currently on the path to publish a series of manuscripts currently funded by NIH and USDA. The RT II will have the opportunity to contribute to these exciting projects.
Job Duties- Mouse colony: including breeding, weaning, ear tagging, genotyping, updating colony database, keeping in compliance with IACUC regulations
- Cell and molecular biology: PCR, real-time PCR, molecular cloning, tissue culture, and ELISA
- Histology: tissue dissection, fixation, cryosectioning, antibody staining
- Lab maintenance: keep work surfaces clean and orderly; maintain glassware by cleaning, washing, sterilizing, and labeling; prepare lab stock solutions; ensure lab safety; assist with the ordering and inventory of lab supplies.
- The PI will provide necessary training for skills as required by these duties listed above.
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- Bachelor or Master Degree in a broad field of biology, medicine, chemistry, pharmacy, or nursing.
- Experience in the following fields are strongly preferred but not required: handling of lab mice or rats, PCR, tissue culture, molecular cloning.
