Department of Medicine: Dermatology has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Study Coordinator 1.

Incumbents perform routine scientific work, evaluating, selecting, and applying standardized scientific or procedures and techniques to assignments with clear, specific objectives; mainly statistical analysis of data on a cohort of Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) patients.? Incumbents also perform clinic logistical work, coordinating the patient’s interaction with the research. For training and development purposes, assignments may include some work that is typical of a higher level.?

Knowledge: Knows the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of cancer biology; continues development of technical expertise and knowledge through experience and application.?

Direction received: Reports directly to the research lab manager. Supervisor screens assignments for unusual or difficult problems and selects techniques and procedures to be applied on non-routine work. Receives close supervision on new aspects of assignments.?

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees and tracks blood collection for research studies. Delivers and sends specimens to internal collaborators.

  • Coordinates tumor collection and performs processing for future use by research team.

  • Leads data migration for new specimen patient database.

  • Supports questions from patients and clinicians regarding research study and directs clinical questions to the appropriate team member.

  • Performs statistical analysis of cohort data and contributes of data/findings for use in reports, documents, presentations, and manuscripts.

  • Defines and improves practices and protocols from experiences on small projects.

  • Collaborates with a variety of team members including physicians, post-doctoral fellows, statisticians, and graduate students to complete projects and manuscripts about clinical management of MCC.

  • Supports meetings by taking and distributing notes and scheduling.

  • Helps plan educational outreach events.

  • Provides fundraising partners information for reports and meetings.

  • Guide more junior lab members on tasks and projects.

  • Position requires a minimum of 50% of time on site and may require working beyond normal business hours. New tasks may be required in this role.


  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant OR equivalent education/experience.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
