About the Position
Reporting to the MCC Research Development Manager, the Research Development Coordinator will be responsible for leading the MCC Internal Grants Program, developing and submitting research grant proposals and progress reports, coordinating targeted funding opportunity searches and dissemination, coordinating areas of the annual Cancer Research Symposium, Seminar Series and other research engagement events, as well as being a contributing team member by participating in the planning, coordination, and execution of administrative processes and systems that provide quality control and operational efficiency.
Duties/Responsibilities
40% Lead the administration of the MCC Internal Grants Program. Serve as the primary administrator for MCC Internal Grants Program, managing the logistics of both annual spring and fall cycles and for additional funding opportunities as they arise. This position will work with the internal grant software system used to collect applications, reviews and track outcomes of the internal grants. With oversight and direction from the Research Development Manager, this position will ensure the quality and completeness of the internal grants program while ensuring that outcomes are reported accordingly. Tasks include developing process for solicitation, review and awards of internal grants, liaison with mechanism chairs, reviewers and applicants, write RFAs for annual mechanisms oversee the review process and prepare notice of awards with terms of awards, and independently tracking outcomes and progress reports.
40% Develop and Submit Grant Proposals and Progress Reports. Partnering with the 22 MCC-supported faculty to review the requirements of the particular funding opportunities, prepare budgets for, compile components of, and submit grant applications for sponsored research. Work closely with the MCC Research Development team and the SPA office on requirements and submission deadlines. The agencies most common to our faculty include the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), Department of Defense (DOD), and ACS (American Cancer Society).
For proposals, tasks include determining the submission timeline and workflow; conducting preliminary review of proposals from faculty for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to agency/MCC/UMN policies and procedures; prepare administrative information for proposals; respond to issues that arise from sponsor or the investigator prior to award; identify novel circumstances and collect information for discussion with senior staff when needed; serve as liaison to sponsoring agencies and University personnel.
For progress reports, tasks include maintaining a calendar of all progress reports required by funding agencies; initiate and coordinate budget and document collection in collaboration with faculty and finance staff; advise on and ensure compliance with award conditions, specifically protocol approvals (IRB, IACUC, IBC); publication compliance (NIH Public Access Policy), etc.; respond to issues that arise from sponsor or the investigator during this process; identify novel circumstances and collect information for discussion with senior staff when needed; serve as liaison to sponsoring agencies and University personnel.
15% Funding Opportunities. Identify, review and communicate external funding opportunities to all MCC members via the weekly Update email while also updating the ongoing funding opportunities spreadsheet. Target searches to find opportunities well suited to specific MCC strategic priorities, to team science, and to specific MCC-supported faculty research areas.
5% Contribute as a Team Member in Other General Duties for the Research Development Office. Coordinate support for new programs and projects, provide support for annual research engagement activities such as the annual Cancer Research Symposium and the MCC Seminar Series. Seminars occur weekly during the academic year. A required component of the position is staffing the 450 MCRB simulcast location.
