Job Type:LOC_ABRAMSON-Abramson Building Req ID: 74165Shift: DaysEmployment Status: Regular - Full Time Job SummarySummary: A postdoctoral position is immediately available at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to study host-microbiota interactions at mucosal surfaces, their impact on the early-life immune system and strategies for manipulating the microbiome and immune system to prevent autoimmune diabetes (T1D). This project is funded by NIH and JDRF and includes collaboration with the PennCHOP microbiome program. Responsibilities: The work will involve cellular and molecular immunology and microbiology, the analysis of murine and human microbiomes, analysis of intestinal immune system cells including regulatory T cells, culture and manipulation of gut commensal organisms, as well as work with germ-free and gnotobiotic mice. Successful candidates should have a recent Ph.D., M.D., DVM or equivalent degree, and background in immunology (or microbiology) and a successful publication track record. They will participate in the writing of project plans, publications and contributing to managing project efforts. With seniority they will help to supervise and mentor team members (students and/or technicians).
Required skills: Basic immunologic techniques (cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA), PCR, immunoblotting; willingness to work with laboratory animals and human blood/stool samples; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively. Background in mucosal immunology is valued. Optional skills: Experience with gnotobiotic and germfree animals; Microbial flow cytometry; ability to work with QIIME and other bioinformatics tools.Of note, institutional assistance obtaining a visa to work in the United States is available.
