The Regulatory Compliance (RC) team is responsible for setting regulatory policy, high level compliance planning and providing expertise to the product development and certification teams on matters related to global regulations. The Regulatory Compliance team is always expanding its expertise to cover more complex product ecosystems and requirements globally.

We are looking for a team member with a proven engineering background in battery, battery chargers and charging systems to drive regulatory compliance and safety measures to meet requirements for global markets. The role requires someone to take ownership to oversee and ensure the effective implementation of battery charging systems in mobile devices through the collection and review of test evidence, specifications and other documentation. The position will be accountable for understanding global regulations and safety measures necessary to place a mobile device on market followed with the acquisition of and maintenance of relevant regulatory authorizations globally thereby enabling initial ship authorization and sustained compliance for our products.
Lenovo Motorola is in a very aggressive and competitive market and therefore the candidate will have to be ready to balance long term strategic goals with the short-term imperative of shipping products in a very fluid and fast paced environment.
Scope of Responsibilities:
  • Track battery related development activity and changes to product design, schedules, testing and markets as related to regulatory compliance for programs developed.
  • Manage battery and charger sample allocations globally to meet testing requirements and lab submissions related to market authorizations.
  • Collect and review relevant specifications, testing reports and certification documentation for batteries and charger development to ensure compliance to applicable safety policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and Setup clear compliance plans for battery systems and safety certifications to meet program ship schedules.
  • Work with the Product Escalation Team to review reported safety incidents related to battery and charger systems in the determination of root cause and failure analysis.
  • Assist legal teams on any matters related battery and charger litigation including but not limited to the gathering of evidence demonstrating safety review/approval of product pre-launch, the collection of field performance data. Providing evidence of findings of the incident unit as well as other incident investigations (same product or similar product). Answer interrogatories and/or request for production requests.
  • Drive and develop safety policies/process updates to prevent recurrence of past issues and mitigate risk of field failures. Includes taking part in the development of internal battery standards, battery specifications, quality standard operating procedures and work instructions.

Position Requirements:

Preferred Experience:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of battery Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and MSDS
  • UN38.3 UN recommendations on the transport of dangerous goods
  • IEEE 1725 Standard for Rechargeable Batteries for Cellular Telephones.
  • IEC62133 Safety Test Standard of Li-Ion Cell and Battery
  • CEC / US DoE - Battery Charger Systems (CEC-400-2017-002 / Title 10 CFR Part 430.32(z)) and other globally related standards.
  • Working knowledge of battery/charging regulations in (but not limited to) North America, Latam, EU, India and China markets
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors or higher degree in electrical engineering
  • Relevant experience battery or charger system development
  • Ability to work flexibly in an ever changing environment, with developing regulatory requirements and should be able to adapt to working in different situations without extensive guidance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the mobile handset development industry
  • Experience with Jira or other database interfaces
  • Bilingual Chinese/English with strong oral and written communication skills is a plus
  • Experience with regulatory procedures or entities on a global scale
