Job Description

Job Description Scope of Position:Works under the direct supervision of Radiologist and/ or Radiologist performing sonographic studies according to the established imaging and patient care protocols of the Diagnostic Imaging Department in order to obtain accurate ultrasound diagnosis. Responsible for academic and clinical study and effort leading to ultrasound registry. Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations on patients. Works directly with the radiologist and /or attending physician with regard to ultrasound diagnosis. Assists in training/precepting personnel in non-invasive ultrasound procedures. Participates in after-hours call for coverage needs. Utilizes the full scope of equipment, which includes intraoperative ultrasound procedures and competent to perform procedures on neonates to geriatric patients. The care provided to each patient is specific to the patient's particular physical, age-specific and psychosocial needs. The patient population served by this position includes neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

C. Education Experience:Registry by the ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) and at least one specialty. Two years of related experience is preferred. Must demonstrate excellent scanning skills without supervision.
D. Physical Requirements:Ability to safely handle heavy materials or patients. Physical demands greater than moderate needs may require the knowledge in use of appropriate equipment. Frequent bending, lifting and pulling requires the use of proper body mechanics at all times. Requires close mental, visual (including color recognition) and auditory attention in all phases of patient care activities. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, staff, physicians and visitors. Must be physically fit and able to wear a facial respirator (mask) when working with infectious patients. May be exposed to communicable disease, infection from disease-bearing specimens, infections and contagious diseases. Regularly exposed to risk of bloodborne diseases. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Handles emergency and crisis situations. May perform emergency care. Subject to interruptions, irregular hours. Handles absentee replacement on short notice. Incidents of exposure to blood and body fluids moderately high. Must, at all times, practice universal precautions
E. Working Conditions:Routinely, the patient will work in a high stress, confined and dark environment with frequent interruptions. Expected to work in other patient care areas as needed. Requires independent and team job performance. Rotations with call required, depending on job status. Demands high level of concentration and the ability to work in emotionally charged situations.
