PURPOSE
The Registered Nurse’s primary responsibility is to provide professional nursing care. Performs nursing activities in the operating room. Answers patient needs by assisting the physician and person responsible for anesthesia care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Provides continuity of patient care by communicating with other patient care personnel and documenting records appropriately.
- Participates in maintaining current nursing practice standards; enforces the implementation of the standards to provide quality patient care.
Performs nursing duties and responsibilities.- Performs designated nursing duties (starting IV’s, giving injections, drawing blood, etc.).
- Reviews schedule at least one week in advance and prepare as necessary (make sure implants, abutments, splints, stents, etc. are available at the appropriate office).
- Assists doctors with surgical procedures (extractions, biopsies, implants, bone grafts, etc.); suction, irrigation, pass instruments, cut sutures, etc.
- Performs office procedures as directed (remove surgical splints, fit splints, remove sutures, place packs, etc.).
- Assists doctors in OR cases
- Communicates with sales reps and OR staff to notify of special needs for OR cases.
- Prepares patient and room set-up for appropriate procedure/exam.
- Reviews post-op instructions with surgery patients.
- Reviews charts/paperwork before doctor sees patient; completes appropriate paperwork.
6.10. Helps in workroom and with restocking clinical supplies.
6.11. Utilizes computer system (time clock, reviewing schedules, scheduling appointments, etc.).
6.12. Adheres to OSHA and all office policies and procedures.
6.13. Other duties as directed.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Education/Certification/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing required
- Current state licensure required
- Ambulatory or Oral and Maxillofacial surgery experience preferred
- NC dental x-ray certification (preferred)
- CPR certification required
- Oral & Maxillofacial Anesthesia Assisting Program completion

- Requires visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care assessment activities.
- Requires the ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs, to stand or sit for long periods, occasional overhead, and low reaching, bending, the ability to exert force of up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly. Patient care activities may require the ability to exert force up to 30 pounds constantly, 40 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds rarely.
