POSITION TITLE: Post- Anesthesia Care Unit Staff Nurse (PACU RN)
DEPARTMENT: Perioperative Services
REPORTS TO: Perioperative Services Director
The Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act requires employers in the state of Colorado to disclose the following information. Hourly (salary) minimum $34.00, hourly (salary) maximum $42.69. The base hourly (salary) range above represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual hourly (salary) rates may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to: experience, education, and training.
Pay is just one component to prospective employees’ compensation package. Compensation may also include shift differentials. JOB PURPOSE: To improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.
BASIC FUNCTION: The PACU Registered Nurse provides care, treatment, counseling, and health education to patients in the surgical environment. The RN assists in the monitoring patient’s physiologic and emotional status in the immediate postoperative environment. Communicates with surgeon and anesthesiologist and other members of the health care team about patient conditions and intervenes to maintain optimal care. Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing. Valid registration as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado. A temporary permit issued by the Board of Nursing will be accepted until a permanent license is received if awaiting reciprocity. ACLS and PALS certification is required within 6 months of initial employment. Must have current BLS certification and maintain current status throughout GRHD employment.
Experience: Prefer one year of professional nursing experience in a PACU or ICU patient care setting. Must be at least eighteen years of age.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice and ability to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of District policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, both written and on computer, and responding to correspondence. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, co-workers and the public. Ability to maintain performance improvement and quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to communicate clearly. Requires the ability to perform duties and tasks with a patient centered focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. This position performs tasks that involve Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, body fluids or tissues. Exposure to patients’ conditions and some unpleasant sights, smells and diseases are common. Frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards. May experience traumatic situations including psychiatric, dismembered and deceased patients.
