What You Will Do:

The Registered Nurse is a clinical practitioner who coordinates and implements patient care specific to the age and type of patient population served on the assigned units. She/he ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with the unit’s standards of care. She/he demonstrates performance consistent with the mission, vision and goals of the unit and organization; remains flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice; and treats patients, families, staff, and physicians with respect and consideration.

A. Patient Care Management and Clinical Judgment:
Develops, interprets, implements, evaluates and documents a plan of care for each patient using the nursing process, specific to the age and type of patients served. Demonstrates effective decision-making and critical thinking skills coupled with nursing skills acquired through a process of integrating formal and experiential knowledge. Safely performs and documents nursing interventions consistent with nursing care standards and division/department policies.

B. Communication, Advocacy, Collaboration and Diversity:
Communicates relevant patient information. Incorporates differences (individual, cultural, spiritual, gender, race, ethnicity, disability, lifestyle, family configuration, socioeconomic status, age, values and alternative medicine) into the provision of care, involving patient, family and members of the healthcare team.


What You Need to Be Successful:


Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current active licensure in the State of Maryland as a Registered Nurse. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide care needed as described in unit or division policies and procedures. Knowledgeable and sensitive to patient’s rights in the delivery of care. Communicates in a clear, concise manner appropriate to the developmental stage of the population served. Prefer recent appropriate nursing practice in the patient population areas to be served. Ability to learn and use computer systems in order to manage patient information.

Education contact hours required annually, excluding mandatory hospital education requirements.
Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
