The RN First Assistant renders direct patient care as part of the perioperative role by assisting the surgeon in the surgical treatment of the patient. This is accomplished under the direct supervision of the Attending Surgeon and in accordance to the goals of the department of Surgery and Philosophy of the Division of nursing and the policy of the medical staff.
Typical surgeries include cardiac, thoracic, or vascular surgeries such as Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts, Valve replacement, lung surgery/thorocotomy, VATS, Carotid Endartectomy, Aortic Abdominal Aneurysm repair, vascular bypass, etc are seen in the CVOR. Would consider an OR nurse with 1 year experience both scrubbing and circulating.

Responsibilities:- Actively participates in working towards the organizational and departmental goals for providing exceptional patient experiences
- Collaborates with patient and healthcare team to assess, plan, implement, and/or evaluate patient's plan of care.
- Assures quality of care by adhering to industry standards and measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and benchmarks.
- Consistently assesses, identifies and addresses patient's educational needs and barriers to learning.
- Maintains safe working environment and patient safety by complying with hospital policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Demonstrates knowledge and technical skills to perform all duties required to care for patients.
- RN Licensure with Reciprocity in the state of Virginia
- Certicate in First Assistant Course Required.
- AHA BLS for the Healthcare Provider CPR
- Four years of operating room experience required.
- Demonstrated Leadership ability required.
- Certification in Perioperative Nursing to be obtained within 12 months
- CRNFA preferred.
