POSITION TITLE: Circulating Registered Nurse


DEPARTMENT: Perioperative Services


REPORTS TO: Perioperative Services Director


The Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act requires employers in the state of Colorado to disclose the following information. Hourly (salary) minimum $31.70, hourly (salary) maximum $37.60. The base hourly (salary) range above represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual hourly (salary) rates may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to: experience, education, and training.

Pay is just one component to prospective employees’ compensation package. Compensation may also include shift differentials. JOB PURPOSE: To improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.


BASIC FUNCTION: The Circulating Registered Nurse provides care, treatment, counseling, and health education to patients in the intraoperative phase. The RN monitors patient’s physiologic and emotional status in the operative environment; provides continuous patient surveillance for early recognition and immediate emergency treatment of medical or surgical complications. Communicates with surgeon and anesthesiologist and other members of the health care team about patient conditions and intercedes to maintain optimal homeostasis. Assists with maintenance of surgical equipment, inventory, and sterilization. Assess operating room for equipment function, readiness, supply availability and ensures need of operating team are met. Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing. Licensed in the state of Colorado as a Registered Nurse. A temporary permit issued by the Board of Nursing will be accepted until a permanent license is received if awaiting reciprocity. Must have current BLS card upon hire and maintain current status throughout GRHD employment. ACLS and PALS certification is required within 6 months of initial employment and must maintain current certification status throughout GRHD employment.


Experience: Prefer one year of professional nursing experience in an operating room patient care setting.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice and ability to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of District policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, both written and on computer, and responding to correspondence. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, co-workers and the public. Ability to maintain performance improvement and quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to communicate clearly. Must be proficient within six (6) months of hire in HealthStream, Kronos, Allscripts Touchworks, Meditech, PACS, MUSE, Galactica, QHN, Midas, and Pyxis.


GENERAL COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS: Has knowledge of and adheres to all compliance regulations, policies and procedures. Completes annual compliance, privacy, and security training. Responsible for complying with all federal, state and local rules and regulations. Complies with the all Grand River Hospital District policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct and the Compliance and Ethics Program requirements. Reports any observation of fraud, waste, abuse, and/or privacy violations. Reports any conflict of interest or relationship immediately.

Complies with all hospital information security practices.

WORKING CONDITIONS: This position performs tasks that involve Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, body fluids or tissues. Exposure to patients’ conditions and some unpleasant sights, smells and diseases are common. Frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards. May experience traumatic situations including psychiatric, dismembered and deceased patients. Working conditions which are common for a Perioperative Services and/or hospital environment.
