Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision of a Senior Services Administrator, develop, direct and supervise programs and special events for Senior Citizens; publicize programs; initiate and teach classes as needed; respond to requests for information; provide accurate and timely customer services to the general public and internal customers as required.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Oversees facility patrons.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Provides quality customer service.
Plans, organizes, conducts and coordinates a variety of programs, classes, special events, and presentations for the Senior Services Division.
Prepares a variety of reports and other documents such as operating, activity and statistical reports, promotional materials and other forms of documentation.
Collaborates with community organizations, businesses, service providers to ensure a variety of activities and information are available.
Ensures that procedures and rules are followed at the Rose Park Senior Center.
Assists in planning and developing future senior center improvements and recreation programs.
Assist in recruitment of class instructors and volunteers.
OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES
Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Planning and directing group, social, and recreational activities for Senior Citizens.
Principles and objectives of recreation and leisure activities to include organizing and leading groups of people.
First aid practices and techniques; general safety protocol; understanding policies and guidelines for dealing with an emergency.
Skill to:
Implement and evaluate programs and activities within departmental guidelines.
Assess recreational needs of Senior Citizens.
Ensure the safety of patrons utilizing our facilities.
Communicate and interact effectively with co-workers, managers, subordinates, and the general public sufficient to convey information and to receive work direction.
Operate office equipment, including computer equipment.
Ability to:
Bring creative ideas and programs to the center by staying current with popular trends and senior citizens desires.
Lead and instruct groups in recreation activities.
Develop a variety of senior programs and events to meet the community needs.
Work independently and manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
Respond quickly in an emergency situation; follow and enforce rules; verbally communicate with the public and staff effectively.
Professionally communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in recreation or senior programming is required.
Education/Training:
A Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in recreation administration, physical education, leisure activity or a related field is preferred.
License or Certificate:
A valid driver’s license; the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.
Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Ability to work flexible hours including mornings, nights, and weekends.
Work environment includes the possibility of working outdoors in extreme heat and cold.
With or without accommodation, ability to lift, carry, and move up to 40 pounds.
Ability to travel to other work locations.
