Job Description

Inter-Rail Transport is contracted through the railroads to perform switching of railcars and unloading of new vehicles from railcars. We have over twenty facilities located across the US. We are seeking motivated individuals to join our team! The positions are highly mental and extremely physical! The work is fast paced. As a team member you receive complete training on how to safely perform conductor tasks and handle new vehicles.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a 7-year background check (no felonies)
  • Pass drug screens (pre-employment and monthly random)
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record w/valid license
  • No alcohol related violations in the past 3 years
  • Work weekends, holidays, and irregular hours

Railcar Unloader Requirements/ Responsibilities:

  • Wear required uniform (coveralls), head protection, proper shoes, safety glasses, and other safety items as instructed.
  • Able to climb ladders on rail cars to a height of 16 feet.
  • Be able to gain entry to rail cars by means of the rail car ladder.
  • Able to remove and replace bridge plates between rail cars at heights of up to 16 feet.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Open and close end doors of rail cars.
  • Must know how to drive both automatic and manual transmissions.
  • Physically able to work on your knees while applying or removing tie down devices on vehicles.
  • Able to work in close quarters while in rail cars.
  • Safely drive a vehicle on and off a ramp with varying degree of elevation.
  • Safely drive a vehicle on or off a rail car with limited clearances.
  • Work in all kinds of weather conditions. Heat, Cold, Ice, Snow, etc.
  • Available to work any day of the week, including Saturday, Sunday and Holidays as needed.
  • Available to work irregular hours as needed. (Day, Nights)
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have a valid driver’s license in accordance with insurance company’s requirements.
  • Submit to and pass a drug/alcohol screening, background check and e-railsafe.
  • Other tasks as assigned

Conductor Requirements/ Responsibilities:

  • The well-being and safety of all employees
  • Must be able to communicate (read, speak and write) in English to meet FRA requirements.
  • Must conform to AAR/FRA guidelines at a minimum as applicable.
  • Participation in daily safety and job briefings
  • Being on time for work
  • Perform radio tests before any work begins
  • Inspect all equipment at the start of the shift
  • Wear proper PPE while at work
  • Use proper radio communication while working
  • Control the movement of trains and engines
  • Throw and inspect switches
  • Know if a track in lined in or out; or if a switch is lined against the movement
  • Hook up air hoses and open/close angle cocks
  • MU-ing engines correctly
  • Uncouple railcars and engines
  • Identify that flags and derails are up or down on all tracks
  • Ride railcars and engines
  • Get on/off railcars and engines
  • Protect shoves
  • Read and complete switch lists properly
  • Talk to train crews on the radio with proper radio communication
  • Put oil and water in engines, replace brakes shoes, etc.
  • Properly secure engines when work is complete
  • Maintain a clean facility
  • Complete daily/weekly/monthly To Do’s
  • Submit to and pass a drug/alcohol screening, background check and e-railsafe
  • Other tasks as assigned

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $16.50 per hour
