Purchasing Manager Job Summary
In this position, you will be part of a team to institute purchasing department best practices across a multi-business unit manufacturer of aftermarket products for the transportation sector. You and the team will formalize the purchasing process, establish relationships, and serve as a representative of the company when negotiating contracts and building supplier trust as well as track and monitor the delivery and confirmation of all materials and supplies. The role is very hands on with responsibilities including planning, ordering and tracking of raw materials and finished goods.
The goal of the team is to lower acquisition costs, align purchasing cycles with manufacturing needs thereby reducing inventory levels while keeping the plants adequately supplied, and to be involved with costing and budgeting activities.
Growth opportunities exist for high performers, including Director level positions to lead purchasing for the entire organization.
Purchasing Manager Duties and Responsibilities
· Research and evaluate potential new suppliers and new products from existing suppliers
· Request quotes and compare prices for maximum ROI
· Estimate and establish cost parameters and budgets for purchases
· Create and maintain good relationships with suppliers
· Negotiate appropriate contracts for pricing and supply
· Track Supplier performance including conformance to schedules and quality
· Ensure the accuracy of purchasing elements of the ERP system, including qualified suppliers, open purchase orders and supplier pricing
· Work with team members, and other constituents to develop future purchasing optimization plans and strategies to improve the order to cash process
· Work with the sales and finance team to develop item forecasts for materials and finished goods
· Collaborate with financial team members on contracts, invoicing, and other financial matters
Purchasing Manager Requirements and Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, finance, or related field
· Solid knowledge and understanding of purchasing processes, policy, and systems, and inventory and supply chain management
· Two + years previous experience as purchasing officer, manager, or related position with supervisory experience
· Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, and Excel)
· Experience with ERS solution NetSuite is a plus
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to negotiate, establish, and process contracts
· Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
· Accurate and precise attention to detail
· Able to make decisions in a fast-paced environment
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
