Job Description

Position Overview:

The Purchasing Agent is responsible for sourcing and negotiating favorable parts and product programs to support various areas of the business. Reviews and analyzes purchase requisitions and supplier quotes for the procurement of goods and services. Responsible for procurement business system data input and integrity. Manages purchased material & WIP inventory levels for select segments of the business. Will produce inventory reports and execute to new product introduction procedures. Position will participate in the leadership of physical inventory processes for assigned business segments. Role will participate in continuous improvement projects and provide training and guidance to departmental personnel. Physical participation in direct warehousing and related functions is involved to support overall Supply Chain operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts supplier source research and leads the negotiation process for pricing and terms on behalf of various functional areas of the business.
  • Responsible for procurement business systems data input and integrity.
  • Analyze parts usage trends to identify opportunities for the Engineering team to better leverage the inventory of remanufactured parts.
  • Purchase and maintain stock of over 3,000 raw material SKUs based on past usage reports, preset order point quantities, and expected production demand.
  • Manage purchase order administration activities to meet purchasing department budgets.
  • Handles all invoice exceptions, including A/P match exceptions associated with purchasing and the expediting of open orders.
  • Leads all spend activity and purchases requested for MRO and Technical areas; determines and communicates proper action plan for all purchases that require Procurement involvement.
  • Manages the correct recording of transactions – adjustments, transfers, deliveries and shipments to reconcile inventory.
  • Conducts investigations, recommends and implements corrective actions as inventory issues are discovered.
  • Actively manages the storage and warehousing of materials - cycle counts plans, analysis of order quantities and max/min’s levels, develop bin profiles.
  • Actively manages physical inventory, inventory turns, cycle count process, and order management to achieve defined financial and performance goals.
  • Leads materials management processes, procedures and practices including forecasting and planning of all raw and purchased materials. Gathers and documents data required to perform cost analyses, compliance reporting, and pricing negotiations.
  • Audits the performance of assigned business segments regarding inventory control on a regular basis.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years of direct negotiation and sourcing experience within an industrial environment is strongly preferred.
  • A successful track record in managing and reporting on parts and purchased products inventory is required.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Excel is required; Microsoft Dynamics/GP software experience is definite plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain or Business Administration is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet timely deadlines.
