Public Works Maintenance Technician – Seasonal
Job Title: Public Works Technician - Seasonal Average Hours Per Week: 40
Department: Public Works Hourly Pay Grade: $13.82
Supervisor's Title: Public Works Director Status: Non-Exempt – Seasonal
Job Summary:
This individual will provide critical maintenance and landscaping in the municipal park system, trail system and at City owned facilities. The individual(s) in this position is primarily responsible for working with hand and power tools, power equipment, sprayers, and other devices, indoors and outdoors and in a variety of weather conditions.
General Responsibilities:
· Under general direction, assist with pathway maintenance and weed control within easements and City property
· Under general direction, assist with building and amenity maintenance including but not limited to minor repairs, sanding, and painting
· Performs park and facility tasks such as cleaning picnic tables, grills, play structures, trash can holders, and restrooms
· Empty trash cans
· Maintenance of dog bag dispensers
· Apply and utilize a variety of chemicals
· Assist with landscaping tasks such as lawn mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, etc.
· Responsible for the cutting and clearing of brush, grasses, tree branches and limbs as directed
· Work without constant supervision
· Keep records of any and all tasks performed as required by the supervisor
· Operate City vehicles responsibly
· Cordially provide information and directions to the general public
· Other duties outside of this description may be assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Knowledge of department policies and procedures
· Knowledge of proper loading, transportation and unloading of equipment
· Knowledge of basic and safe equipment operations and preventive maintenance
· Skill in operation of various trucks such as pick-ups
· Skill in the use of hand tools like, chain saws, pruners, and pressure washers
· Establish effective working relationships with co-workers and the public
Environmental Demands
· Work is performed entirely outdoors and exposure to all elements: i.e., insects, extreme cold and hot temperatures, snow and rain, wind and dust.
· Heavy lifting is required, sometimes up to 60 pounds.
· Some work is on public roadways, shoulders, bridges, etc., exposing employee to traffic and other hazards associated with moving vehicles
Work Schedule
The City reserves the right to make changes to this schedule as needed and to make changes to accommodate the needs and schedule of the employee(s). Work hours may vary and can, at times, include weekends and evenings.
Schedule: 5 days a week from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday through Tuesday. But may be subject to change depending on daily duties and weather.
Position Requirements
· General knowledge and skill in the use of hand tools and lawn maintenance equipment
· General knowledge of basic janitorial practices and requirements for public facilities
Licenses, Certificates or Equipment Required
· Valid driver’s license: Acceptable MVR check will be required
· Must provide proof of insurance to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Idaho
Physical Requirements
· Ability to see, with or without corrective lenses, well enough to read standard text
· Ability to hear, with or without a hearing aid, well enough to converse on the telephone
· Enough body movement to bend, stoop climb and work from ladders or while in awkward positions
· Heavy lifting is required, sometimes up to 60 pounds
· Enough stamina to perform duties for up to four hours at a time with only one 15-minute break
· Ability to perform a wide range of physical and manual tasks in a variety of weather conditions
· Attitude of cooperation and maintain effective working relationships with others
· Ability to complete written timesheets, then manually input into PC based time tracker
Preferred Qualifications
· Past experience in park maintenance
