The Public Safety Coordinator (PSC) provides unarmed uniformed safety, security and customer centered services to all patients, visitors, and staff of the Medical Center. Primary responsibilities include; greeting visitors and managing the issuance/collection of visitor badges at main entry points, validating visitor identification, providing directions and assistance, conducting foot patrols of buildings and grounds to deter crime, prevent loss and promote a safe environment, assisting Public Safety Officers (PSO) in response to security related incidents and emergencies, documenting incidents and events, performing special security detail, and maintaining compliance with security policies and procedures.
Position Details
In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 40 hours per week. We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work 8hr shift, from approximately 7a-3p and will not be scheduled for on-call shifts. The days of the week that you are scheduled will vary depending on the week, but we anticipate that you will be scheduled to work on weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday).Why Join Us: We’ve been at the forefront of medicine since 1899. The Public Safety Coordinator (PSC) provides unarmed uniformed safety, security and customer centered services to all patients, visitors, and staff of the Medical Center. Primary responsibilities include; greeting visitors and managing the issuance/collection of visitor badges at main entry points, validating visitor identification, providing directions and assistance, conducting foot patrols of buildings and grounds to deter crime, prevent loss and promote a safe environment, assisting Public Safety Officers (PSO) in response to security related incidents and emergencies, documenting incidents and events, performing special security detail, and maintaining compliance with security policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions
- Greet incoming patients and visitors to the medical center and verify reason for visit.
- Validate proper identification of incoming patients, visitors and staff.
- Provide accurate directions to patients and visitors to insure they reach their destination within the medical center.
- Conduct foot patrols in assigned areas, double tap required tour access points and report identified safety and security related risk/issues.
- Verify areas are properly locked and secured when performing patrols
- Provide immediate response to unplanned life safety or security related emergencies and drills/exercises.
- Respond to service calls in a timely manner.
- Provide security escort services when requested.
- Assist PSO’s by provided information needed to complete accurate and detailed reports for security related incidents.
- Assist with investigations of all criminal and/or suspicious occurrences in the medical center.
- Attend court or other legal proceedings to provide details of specific
- Perform other duties assigned.
Public Safety Coordinator (PSC) Required Qualifications
- College education preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- At least 21 years of age.
- 1-2 years of job related experience in public safety and/or security role(s).
- Illinois Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) required.
- Certificate Completion of the following Training/Certifications provided by UCM within the first 180 days of employment:
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Verbal Intervention Training/Certification
- International Association of Health Safety and Security (IAHSS) Basic Certification
- Illinois 20-Hour Unarmed Security Officer Certificate
