Salary: $3500.00 per month
Benefits: This is a full-time unclassified state position with full state retirement and insurance benefits, including health, dental, life, and disability insurance for the employee. The employee receives a benefit allowance to assist with insurance cost. Annual leave of 10 hours per month and sick leave of 10 hours per month begin accruing immediately.
Basic Purpose: Plan and coordinate field trips/service to community events that have an educational, recreational, service, community, athletic, or creative purpose. Represents Thunderbird Challenge Program to outside civic, government agencies, municipalities and civilian agencies. Recruit applicants for employment and cadet Mentors.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and maintain partnerships/relationships with civic organizations, municipalities, school districts, government agencies, etc. to further develop the public image of Thunderbird Challenge Program
- Represent the Thunderbird Challenge Program to civic, government, civilian agencies, and municipalities
- Through relationships and partnerships, actively seek and schedule opportunities for cadets to represent the program at high profile community outreach/service to community events
- Actively seek and schedule educational field trips and events that are beneficial to cadet education at Thunderbird Challenge Program
- Coordinate all aspects of events, community service, and field trips both externally and internally to the program
- Attend cadet scheduled events as required
- Write creative copy for various mediums to highlight community service projects
- Utilize contacts to recruit applicants for employment and cadet Mentors as needed
- Attend program and departmental meetings and trainings as required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and experience in building community partnerships and youth development
- Proven skills in leadership, group facilitations, marketing, communication
- Excellent organizational skills, with a high level of proficiency using technology efficiently as a time management and organizational tool
- Ability to create and maintain strong community collaborations
- Ability to assess and evaluate community and school needs and resources, and develop and implement programs to meet these needs
- Strong writing skills, and ability to convey information in a clear, concise and conversational manner
- Ability to write creative copy for various mediums to highlight community service projects
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends including travel as needed
- Must be able to work both in a team environment and be self-motivated to work with minimal supervision
Education and Experience: Associate’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred; plus one year of experience in public relations, community service or related field.

An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses/Certificates required: Possession of or willingness to obtain a CDL with passenger endorsement within 1 year of employment
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift/carry a minimum of 10 pounds
- Sitting at a computer for long periods of time
- Standing and walking indoors and outdoors for long periods of time
- Working in conditions of both high and low temperatures
- Ability to climb stairs
- Ability to drive or ride in a vehicle for extended distances
Conditions of Employment:
- Employment is in the unclassified service as an employee at will
- Contingent on a favorable NCIC/OSBI background check
- Contingent on passing pre-employment drug & alcohol screening
- A valid driver license (possession of or willingness to obtain a CDL)
