What will you do?
Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Sr. IT Project Manager for our Durham, NC Production Chemicals and Services Business (PCS). The primary responsibility is to drive and lead group projects with diverse internal teams ranging from PCS business teams, cross functional teams, Operations, Finance, and PMO to meet project objectives and metrices. [MR1] In this role, the candidate will set-up and supervise overall project schedule, monitor and report the progress of project phases, achievement of milestones and communicate decision needs. Moreover, you’ll plan, direct, supervise and control the execution of all business, technical, fiscal and administrative functions of the project. Based on thorough analyses, you will facilitate the evaluation and prioritization of projects and enable the PCS IT leadership team to make strategic decisions. You’ll prepare executive-level presentations for internal as well as external meetings.
This role works closely with PCS IT, BioProductioon Group leaders and members, Project Managers, Project Sponsors, Finance and all other stakeholders to continually improve project execution and [MR2] ensure IT and Business financial investments are appropriately prioritized and managed successfully. This role will be responsible for identifying and developing solutions and processes to increase project management methodologies efficiencies, effectiveness and continuous improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensure resource availability and allocation
- Develop a detailed project plan to track progress and action logs
- Organize and lead project meetings and compile project status report to stakeholders and project team to drive deliverables to schedule and develop resolutions to mitigation risks/issues.
- Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs
- Lead project execution to ensure standard Project Management best practices are employed
- Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques
- Report and escalate to management as needed
- Perform risk management to minimize project risks
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation and prepare reports for leadership
- Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
- Manage / support project portfolio tools including but not limited to; HP PPM, Power BI, Excel, and other standard apps
- Active participant in process improvements, providing recommendations and solutions
- Develop and maintain training materials
- Provide PMO team with a suite of KPI's on project and portfolio performance (dashboards)
- Leverage and support Global PMO, assisting with the PMF mechanisms, standards, and requirements
How will you get here?
- Bachelors’ Degree in Science/Technical discipline or HS diploma and 5 years of project management and team leadership experience with proven track record in successfully leading projects from start to finish
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Ability to manage multiple projects and interface effectively with team members and across multiple departments & regions/countries
- Strong understanding of formal project management methodologies
- Relevant experience with Lean / Six Sigma experience in an industrial environment is beneficial.
- Good understanding of resource management and capacity planning – previous experience a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- May be called upon for occasional overnight business travel to other Thermo Fisher Scientific operating sites – travel is estimated to be no more than 15%
