Job Summary
Pregis Systems New Product Development (NPD), based in Aurora, IL, is seeking a talented Lead Project Engineer in Automation to innovate and develop Automation Products and Solutions that will be a driving force in the growth of the company. The Lead Project Engineer will have responsibility for specific development and support projects as defined and prioritized through our StageGate process. The project leader will be responsible for development and application of technologies into engineered products to provide increased productivity with reductions in cost, waste and labor for our customers. This role requires energy, creativity, solid mechatronics design capabilities, project management, budget and schedule control. This role will report to the VP Systems Engineering and interface with Product Managers, Product Engineering Leads and vendors. This role potentially leads to a Director level position.

Job Location

This position will work out of our Innovation Headquarters in Aurora, IL. Job Responsibilities


  • Design and develop electromechanical automation products in a collaborative environment
  • Effectively manage internal and external engineering resources in the execution of development projects
  • Manage vendors for mechanical, PCB, controls, and industrial design
  • Establish and maintain project objectives, reporting, budget and timing throughout the StageGate process
  • Personally develop physical prototypes and proof of concept hardware setups
  • Manage vendors for fabrication and other prototyping services as needed
  • Design and detail (when needed) in SolidWorks
  • Build and maintain BOM’s and estimated production costs throughout development
  • Lead projects through commercialization, including handoff to production, service, marketing and sales
Required Experience/Knowledge/Skills


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related
  • 5+ years in electromechanical machine design.
  • 5+ years in project management.
  • 5+ years in automation and/or controls
  • Experience in product development, StageGate process.
  • Solid modeling and detailing (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Design for Manufacturability
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication, presentation and organizational skillset required.
