At NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, we are on a mission to mentor the health care leaders of tomorrow. This highly selective paid summer internship program is designed to give current undergraduate Juniors and Seniors as well as MHA candidates exposure to some of the most crucial operational departments of the hospital. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. You will work under close supervision of existing staff and will be provided with learning opportunities throughout the internship. This internship does not entitle you to a job at its conclusion. NewYork-Presbyterian Queens will be offering 8-week summer internship positions from early June through August. Internship opportunities are within the following departments:
- Administration
- Finance
- Nursing

Position Descriptions and Required Criteria.
ADMINISTRATIVE SUMMER INTERN
Position Summary:
The goal of the Administrative Intern is to provide opportunities to experience one or more aspects of healthcare administration and obtain basic skills and knowledge that contributes to effective healthcare administration.
Responsibilities:
Involvement in a variety of projects, including the following:
- Learn about leadership and management in the healthcare environment, by working side by side with one or more key executive leaders with the organization.
- Involvement in an administrative project, such as collection and presentation of data sets, or participation of public reporting initiatives.
- Areas of focus may include one or more of the following: finance, compliance, population health, business intelligence, public reporting, operations, or clinical areas
- Presentation at completion of internship highlighting knowledge gained and lessons learned.
Qualifications:
- Current student enrolled in Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products, email and internet
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Customer service, organization, problem solving, time and task management skills
- Must be a team player, willing and able to work with a variety of colleagues
FINANCE SUMMER INTERN
Position Summary:
The position is responsible for assisting with data collection and financial analysis activities associated with various projects within the Finance Department.
Responsibilities:
Involvement in a variety of project which may include the following:
- Assist with collection of data and related analysis
- Reconciliation of financial data between systems
- Data collection for an operational benchmarking project
- Account reconciliations
- Preparation of budget schedules
- Presentation at completion of internship highlighting knowledge gained and lessons learned
Qualifications:
- Current student in an accredited 4-year college who achieved a designation of senior for Fall 2020 or recent college graduate with a major or concentration in accounting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, Word and other MS Office products
- Analytical thinker comfortable working with numbers and providing a data-driven rationale for recommendations
- Effective communicator able to coordinate deadlines and deliverables among multiple stakeholders
- Must be a team player, willing and able to work with a variety of colleagues
NURSING SUMMER INTERN
Position Summary:
Under a professional Registered Nurse’s supervision, performs patient care activities and supporting services related to the personal, therapeutic and comfort needs of patients.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of existing staff, tasks may include the following:
- Demonstrates safety and accuracy in performance of duties, according to the Department of Patient Care Services Policy and Procedures and Standards of Practice
- Obtains patient’s height, weight and vital signs, if required
- Performs blood pressure accurately on both the electronic and manual manometer
- Assists patients with activities of daily living
- Presentation at completion of internship highlighting knowledge gained and lessons learned
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Nursing Program as a student RN seeking a Bachelor of Science degrees in Nursing
- Has achieved university designation as a junior or senior prior to starting the program or approval from program director
- Good oral communication and interpersonal skills for communicating with patients, families, visitors and staff
- Basic clerical ability and basic computer knowledge
