The Program Lead (Researcher) will lead the Pathfinders for Justice Program, as the Program Lead on Justice for All and as part of the Pathfinders team in NYU-CIC. The Program Lead will work under supervision of the Director of the Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies.

The Program Lead on Justice for All is expected to work independently, take the lead on knowledge/research development on Justice for All as well as in areas of policy formulation, fundraising and lead the overall program implementation for the grand challenge on Justice. -

The Program Lead is supposed to be able to develop or facilitate ground-breaking research, lead and convince teams on research and policy development, manage partnerships with a diverse range of actors as well as develop convincing campaigns for fundraising and political implementation.

Provide research, thought leadership, and strategic direction

  • Substantiate and develop the facts-based and knowledge-based evidence to inform a vision and strategies for the Pathfinders for Justice program.
  • Initiate and contribute to research developing the case for investment in Justice for All.
  • Based on this research, develop and implement plans to engage Pathfinder member states, (possibly) city leaders, and global and regional partners in an action coalition for Justice for All.

Lead strategic and research based outreach initiatives

  • Develop the necessary partnerships and alliances needed for progress on the Pathfinders for Justice program, strengthening research networks, developing and nurturing political leadership of Pathfinder countries, creating strong and mutually beneficial relationships with partner organizations, and promoting mobilization and movement building for Justice for All.
  • Represent Pathfinders and CIC-NYU, together with the Director, towards global research leaders, senior VIPs, ambassadors, national contacts in capital, UN representatives as well as the broader public and media.
  • Support the director of Pathfinders in engaging champions from the international system and other globally recognized research leaders in the work.

Manage and provide oversight for the research program on Justice for All

  • Manage a team of staff and consultants, secure (together with the director) the continued financial sustainability of the Pathfinders for Justice program and report on impact and value for money to donors.
  • Work with the Pathfinders director and other program leads to ensure the effective coordination and management of the Pathfinders research program including cooperation with other program leads and the CIC to secure smooth work across the current program areas.
  • Develop and implement a communication strategy together with communication staff and the director with the aim to mobilize more support for the Pathfinders for Justice program.
Qualifications

Required Education
Master's in a relevant field, combined with relevant practical experience.

Required Experience
15+ years’ experience working on research and action to promote peace, justice, or inclusion. Experience working with many types of research partners and stakeholders (governments, multilateral organizations, and civil society) in different regions, including the Global South.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Deep expertise on inequality and exclusion. Ability to maintain an overview of a broad policy agenda. Strategic skills to direct and develop a program. Networking skills to manage a positive relationship with member states, international organizations, civil society, and donors. Experience in fundraising and grant management, and in managing complex budgets. Proven ability to manage and develop a team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Fluency in English and one additional language, with a preference for another UN language.

Preferred Education
PhD in a relevant field, combined with relevant practical experience.
