The Program Coordinator reports to the Director of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion and is responsible for supporting the center in achieving its mission. The CDI works to ensure that all students, particularly those who identify with historically underrepresented and/or marginalized identities, strive for and achieve academic excellence. The Program Coordinator is an essential member of a team of professionals dedicated to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the campus community. The program coordinator’s major responsibility is to coordinate the activities, events, and programs sponsored by CDI through event administration, social media promotion, marketing, budget management, and innovative organizing. The Program Coordinator also works with other campus offices on student programming, student support, and student involvement on campus and a strong, optimistic sense of community. In essence, the Program Coordinator assists the CDI Director by serving as a critical leader in developing strong interpersonal relationships with historically unrepresented and systematically minoritized students at Truman State University.
Essential Functions

- Coordinate and facilitate cultural, identity-based, and social justice workshops and programs sponsored by the Center for Diversity and Inclusion
- Support CDI activities and priorities, including on social media (various platforms)
- Supervise student workers as necessary
- Manage event budgets
- Provide other program administrative support to CDI
- Collect and record data for its use in evaluation of CDI programming
- Collaborate with the Student Activities Board and other departments to provide campus programming, professional development, and training
- Collaborate with other offices to support student success
- Provide direct support to students in their social, leadership, and academic development
- Perform other duties as assigned
Responsibilities of the Program Coordinator
Programming
- Create, design, facilitate, and implement monthly identity-based and social justice programming and services in response to trends and needs of underrepresented student populations.
- Design, plan, organize, and facilitate student campus-wide dialogue, social justice, and monthly diversity education programming.
- Collaboratively coordinates campus-wide activities for MLK Day, Heritage Months, and other campus wide diversity, equity, and inclusion programming.
- Assist CDI Director with initiation, development, and implementation of strategies and policies that support the mission of both the University and CDI.
- Conduct thorough evaluation of all diversity programming, providing a quarterly written report to CDI Director.
Student Support
- Collaborate with relevant student organizations and other University constituents to develop diversity partnerships and programmatic co-sponsorships.
- Discern students' needs and partner with appropriate campus offices to arrange for accommodations and services as appropriate.
- Creates and advises identity-based student organizations and affinity spaces, as needed, and directed by CDI Director.
Administrative
- Assist CDI Director with the development, supervision, and evaluation of structured Peer Mentoring Program.
- Assist CDI Director in the administration, planning, and implementation of the TRU (The Real U) Self Academy.
- Prepares and manages budgets for student programming and support initiatives providing quarterly reports to CDI Director.
- Consult in the hiring, training, development, supervision, and evaluation of student workers
Additional Duties
- Serve on University committees and Diversity Councils as assigned by CDI Director.
- Help represent CDI at resource fairs, orientations, large-scale celebrations, and other related student-led gatherings.
- Manage and update all departmental calendars including office hours and resource room reservations systems as needed.
- Coordinate and execute social media strategy using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other types of social media.
- Promote office initiatives and events through various channels of communication.
- Attend scheduled monthly meetings with Director.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the CDI Director.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Demonstrated experience with and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion required
- Event management and marketing experience strongly preferred
- Intercultural competence and the ability to work with a diverse population, including first-generation, low-income, and other historically under-represented populations
- Ability to respond appropriately to a variety of student concerns of a sensitive or confidential nature
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships and engage in creative problem-solving.
- Strong verbal, written communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite required
- Demonstrated commitment to a student and learning-centered environment
- Availability to support evening and weekend events
- Demonstrated skill with social media required
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in higher education, diversity, and/or other relevant degree
- Minimum of one year experience facilitating workshop and training experiences for diverse audiences.
- Minimum of one-year proven ability to collaborate successfully with campus and community partners to develop innovative and engaging racial justice, diversity, and social justice programs and initiatives.
