Job Description

Position Summary:

This position is to manage the residents of our transitional services Connect program. This person will work alongside our Connect Program Director to insure the successful transition of men coming out of WM programs. He will be responsible for drug testing, fiscal accountability, enforcing program rules, and keeping guests on pace with their individual transitional plans.


Wheeler Mission is a privately funded 501 (c) 3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry whose designated purpose is religious. We are a Christ-centered ministry which is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. Qualifications:

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Monitor progress of men in Connect Program along with Program Director.
  • Perform daily dorm checks to maintain cleanness at a high level.
  • Help enforce program and dorm rules at all times.
  • Maintain legal and ethical confidentiality in all guest related matters.
  • Report issues and major events to Connect Program Director.
  • Keep Mission Tracker updated with client notes and any program changes when they work with men.
  • Follow up with program participants to make sure they are saving money.
  • Assist Foundations and Hebron case management with guests who will be transitioning into Connect.
  • Write up all intake emails and post new photos of the men coming into Connect.
  • Maintain sack lunch list and send out on Tuesdays.
  • Follow up on any program issues that come up on shift reports from GSC.
  • Stay in communication with Program Director to best serve the men in program.
  • Program Assistant will be a co-leader with Program Director to ensure the highest quality of care to the guests in Connect.

Work Environment:

The Program Assistant must be able to carry out the required job duties in a fast-paced Christ Centered environment that is grace-based, trauma informed, and strengths focused. Must also be comfortable dealing with homeless men in varying stages of addiction, mental/physical disabilities, and judicial issues.


Physical Demands:

  • Maintain Building Security of the MRC
  • Professionally interact with staff, guests, and the general public.
  • Answering phone calls.
  • Conflict resolution with guest.
  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
  • Able to sit at a computer to enter data and write/send emails.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum education requirement is a high school diploma or (GED) equivalent.
  • Computer literate with Microsoft Word and Excel and have an aptitude to learn new computer programs (Mission Tracker database).


Preferred Education and Experience:

  • One or more years of experience in Case Management or Biblical counseling.
  • Experience working with a Gospel-Centered Ministry.
  • College level coursework completed in biblical or ministry-related fields.


Background Investigation and Drug Testing:

  • After a “conditional offer of employment” is made, the individual must pass a background investigation which includes a consumer credit investigative report.
  • Wheeler Mission Ministries has a mandatory drug testing policy for all new employees. The successful applicant must submit to and pass a drug and/or alcohol test. This drug and/or alcohol testing may occur any time after the applicant receives a conditional offer of employment. All employees must sign and adhere to WM Drugs and Alcohol policy and remain free from addiction to drugs or alcohol.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervising men in programs at times.


Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time 40-hour per week position, generally with some flexibility working, days, evenings, and weekends.

Travel:

Travel around Indianapolis may be required to help men find housing and churches.
