Organizational Summary :

Since 1982 San Francisco AIDS Foundation has been fighting to eliminate HIV transmission and to improve the quality and length of lives for people living with HIV. While progress has been substantial, our work is far from complete. More than 25,000 people every year access free HIV testing and STI screening, harm reduction and syringe access and disposal, community engagement, and health navigation services from SFAF. Position Overview::

The Program Assistant, Black Health – Per Diem is responsible for supporting the implementation and coordination of innovative and data-driven social support and community building interventions for African American/Black gay, bi, queer, transgender, gender non-conforming, same-gender loving and questioning individuals, with a focus on Black people living with HIV or at risk for HIV transmission. Black Health seeks to decrease isolation; improve knowledge of health issues affecting Black/African American communities; and increase HIV/HCV/STI testing & status awareness, linkage, and retention in care. Black Health engages members in order to improve individual, group and community health through social support groups, workshops, events, outreach and HIV/HCV/STI testing events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities::

  • Member Engagement:: With guidance from the Program Manager, Black Health and with input from Black Health members, the role will assist in planning, implementing, and supporting facilitation of meaningful group events and activities focused on program goals and outcomes. This role also provides meaningful and effective individual support to participants to support their ability to participate in group activities and the program overall.
  • Collaboration:: Coordinates with other SFAF teams to ensure Black Health members are connected, when appropriate, to other individual or group services, including supporting ongoing engagement in other SFAF programs. Provides external referrals when needed and possible. Establishes linkages & collaborations internally and externally.
  • Supporting Events: :Provides support to associated volunteers, Black Health members engaged in the planning efforts, and programs that partner with BBE. This job requires occasional evening & weekend participation when needed and planned.
  • Outreach: :Identifies, engages, and supports Black/African-American LGBTQ individuals within the Bay area. In partnership with the Marketing & Communication team, develop outreach materials and assets. Supports Black Health programs’ social media accounts.
  • Documentation:: Ensures collection of and entry of BBE program data in our electronic health record system. Also includes tracking completion of internal referrals.
  • One Agency:: Attends department, weekly supervision, agency wide staff meetings and other meetings as determined appropriate by supervisor.

  • Multitasking Skills: :Ability to manage multiple projects at one time. Ability to organize projects by relevance and urgency. Ability to keep moving projects forward.
  • Outreach Planning:: Ability to plan and execute community outreach activities. Knowledge of social media and virtual/digital engagement. Comfortable engaging in-person in Black/African American communities and LGBTQ venues.
  • Knowledge:: Possesses technical knowledge required to do the job. Awareness & sensitivity to health disparities/stigma related to SFAF’s priority communities.
  • Judgment:: Exhibits sound and accurate judgment; can clearly explain reasoning for decisions; includes appropriate people in decision-making process; demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles.
  • Adaptability: :Adapts to changes in work duties and organizational structure.

Physical Requirements and Work Environments:::

Skill in operating equipment such as a personal computer, copy machine and telephone system. Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Education and Experience:: :
  • Six Months of experience in community/grassroots organizing or social services OR equivalent professional experience required.
  • Administrative assistant skills highly regarded.
  • Volunteer coordination experience highly regarded.
  • Sexual health education and group facilitation experience highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of HIV and individual/cultural/societal factors affecting HIV risk highly regarded.
  • Experience working with/in diverse communities of color and LGBTQ communities highly regarded.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills highly regarded.

Work Environment:::

This position is primarily located at 1035 Market Street,: San Francisco, however it may occasionally require traveling to other office locations or off-site meetings as required by the job. Role may include evening and weekend coverage.
