Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Product Test Engineer to join the Building Control Systems Team in Carlsbad, CA. The successful candidate will design and implement tests ensuring the quality and the functionality of new and existing products. Ensures all phases of the testing program, from designing the test parameters to troubleshooting errors, and writing up final test procedures.
What Will You Do?
- Partner with design engineers in the building of test fixtures, analysis and troubleshooting of electrical components, sub-assemblies and products.
- Conduct strong root cause analysis for systems, field returns and product design failures, identifying and implementing adequate corrective actions.
- Utilize schematic capture tools and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout programs, various digital and analog test equipment to ensure that product design specifications are met or to validate design requirement changes or scope changes.
- Collaborate on design changes with engineering, mechanical, technical writing, quality and product management to ensure that both product and customer documentation is correct and up to date.
- Research, review, evaluate, document, and implement product testing plans including identification of specialized equipment needed to implement these plans. Make business recommendations and cost justifications to leadership on new equipment, rental and/or acquisition required for test strategy.
- Propose design enhancements to confirm or improve compliance to product requirements. Contribute to the development and refinement of product test processes and implement all needed test procedures, including continuous improvement of processes.
- Team up with design engineers to develop strategies and perform product and system level product integration, regression and specialized tests; including firmware, software, electrical and mechanical tests. Develop test automation methodologies, equipment and scripting setup to support any tests where Test Automation is beneficial.
- Build, test, and validate test fixtures. Prepare and support reliability/ validation testing. Collaborate with manufacturing by resolving manufacturability problems as they develop and/or to transfer PCB design to outside manufacturer as well as with quality control for questions concerning the acceptability of material.
- Train Technicians and Interns as required, in addition, provide day-to-day guidance, ensuring functions are complete and accurate.

EDUCATION:
- BS in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in testing electrical hardware in products.
- Solid working technical knowledge and design processes including extensive understanding of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design standards such as Institute for Printed Circuits, specifically IPC-610 and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) requirements.
- Electro-mechanical experience with ability to understand and troubleshoot mechanical systems that include small motors, gears and other moving parts.
- Working knowledge and implementation of HALT/HASS; environmental and stress testing, desirable; experience with methods of reliability prediction, a plus.
- Strong analytical skills and proven ability to efficiently research and summarize information in an effective manner and make recommendations based on analysis.
- Advanced use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite Applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook as well as other engineering applications such as Solidworks at a basic level. Ability to use internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively.
- Proficient with Engineering design software, such as PCB design software and engineering documentation systems; experience with Altium Designer is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Test Automation platforms and writing Test Scripts using Python, C, C# or C++. Experience with Agile tools including familiarity with JIRA or similar. Ability to write and run test plans using Test Pad. Familiarity with RF 802.15.4 and Bluetooth, a plus.
