Job Description

The Product Development Manager will support the Multi-Family Housing Team through ownership of key products and clients within the Renters business, along with evaluating new products, endorsements, and services within the product pipeline. The Manager will play a key role in products under the Multi-Family Housing Team. The Product Development Manager position requires high energy, a positive attitude and a team player mentality. Strong communication skills, project management, research, organizational and analytical problem-solving skills are essential.

Primary Responsibilities:

Technical Expertise and Product Support

Develop quality standards, administration, and reporting standards for new products. Deep understanding of P&C filing processes, forms, pricing, and actuarial review. The ability to analyze and create models for pricing, profitability, and risk profiling.

Market Evaluation

Assess, monitor, and evaluate key market and risk trends and work across the Multi-Family Housing team to innovate, strategize, and implement product enhancements, new products, pricing structures, technology, and efficiency. Research, test and implement new underwriting and risk mitigation technology to improve product performance, drive profitability, and improve client/customer experience.

Product Management and Development

Support the management and development of the products, including establishing existing filings, new product or services, marketing strategy and analysis, integration and set up of operational center including the training of key operational team members, developing and tracking progress reports, and conducting market research to strengthen the efficacy of the product.

Competitive Information

The Product Development Manager will maintain and update database of primary and secondary competitors as well as research potential new product opportunities from competitive portfolios.

Innovation and Ideation

Support the ideation process by working with the team on market research and analysis, product idea brainstorm sessions, industry research, and working to create an innovative culture across the organization.

Special Projects/Agile

  • Participate in special projects that help strengthen the core business.

  • Represents the “voice of the customer and sales” consolidating input from all stakeholders into a Roadmap.

  • Owns the prioritization Epics and Features to maximize business value.

  • Ensures that the final overall product meets business and client needs.

  • Strong working relationship and clear delineation of responsibilities with BPO. Possesses or fosters deep subject matter expertise in product areas within their product line of business.

  • Meaningful time spent with business stakeholders.

  • Regular interaction with core Agile team focused on Roadmap vision and definition of value.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of insurance experience with Product Development, Actuarial, State Filings, or Underwriting related work

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Strong experience with data modeling with Microsoft Excel or other analytical tools

  • Ability to observe, interpret and document workflow processes

  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and work independently or as part of a project team to complete multiple tasks

  • Requires the ability to deal with ambiguity and the corresponding ability to quickly provide sound decisions and perform tasks with less than complete information

  • Ability to work with multi-functional teams including marketing, customer service, operations, and IT to introduce new products and services to market

  • Ability to conduct industry research and evaluation as well as strategic analysis and reporting of test results and key trends

  • Support the development of business cases for new Products and Services including financial projections, marketing forecasts, and operational delivery
