Position Summary:

Freakonomics Radio is looking for a Producer to join our team. We seek journalists with a strong interest and background in the social sciences and/or data analysis, evidence-based ideas, and rigorous research. Our Producer should be curious about a wide variety of subjects, comfortable with data and academic research, be detail oriented, and have excellent written skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise all aspects of production of 10-12 episodes per year — from idea phase through publication
• Pitch ideas and research show topics
• Identify, book, and pre-interview potential guests
• Prep host for interviews
• Conduct interviews and field reporting
• Log tape and transcripts
• Write scripts
• Fact-check
• Offer editorial feedback to host
• Contribute to social media accounts and listener engagement
• Participate in weekly editorial meetings
• Some administrative tasks as needed
• Potential to work on Freakonomics Radio Network spinoff podcasts
• Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None

Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in the behavioral or social sciences
• 2-5 years experience in a deadline-driven environment

Requirements and General Skills:

• Familiarity with and interest in social science research and data
• Superb writing skills showing originality and humor
• Creative problem-solving in editing stories and interviews
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Scrupulous attention to detail
• Audio editing skills preferred but not required
