Position Summary:
Freakonomics Radio is looking for a Producer to join our team. We seek journalists with a strong interest and background in the social sciences and/or data analysis, evidence-based ideas, and rigorous research. Our Producer should be curious about a wide variety of subjects, comfortable with data and academic research, be detail oriented, and have excellent written skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise all aspects of production of 10-12 episodes per year — from idea phase through publication
- Pitch ideas and research show topics
- Identify, book, and pre-interview potential guests
- Prep host for interviews
- Conduct interviews and field reporting
- Log tape and transcripts
- Write scripts
- Fact-check
- Offer editorial feedback to host
- Contribute to social media accounts and listener engagement
- Participate in weekly editorial meetings
- Some administrative tasks as needed
- Potential to work on Freakonomics Radio Network spinoff podcasts
- Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in the behavioral or social sciences
- 2-5 years experience in a deadline-driven environment
Requirements and General Skills:
- Familiarity with and interest in social science research and data
- Superb writing skills showing originality and humor
- Creative problem-solving in editing stories and interviews
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Scrupulous attention to detail
- Audio editing skills preferred but not required
