Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Process Engineer to join our Standard Plants Product Line (SPPL) team at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

The SPPL Process Engineering team provides engineering support for our line of productized plants including Adsorption Separation Plants, Electrolysis Plants, and Steam Methane Reforming Plants. Our business supports customers in a diverse range of industries including metals processing, glass manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, foods processing, electronics manufacturing, and chemical and petrochemical manufacturing to name a few.

You will execute projects in all regions of the globe. As a result, we ask that you be willing to travel both domestically and internationally as needed. Travel duration is typically one to two weeks. Travel requirements are typically 15% or less per year with an effort to maintain a healthy work life balance!

As a process engineer you will:

  • Develop new product offerings including Electrolysis and Adsorption Plants.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining current product portfolio.
  • Develop and maintain Product-specific Process execution plans for new and existing products.
  • Develop and review process simulations.
  • Author or review process specification documents and vendor documents for use in Projects and Products including vessels, rotating equipment, reactors, catalysts and package equipment.
  • Participate in P&ID development and in Hazard and Operability Reviews.
  • Share creative solutions and prepare Process estimates for project and product development efforts and identify process technical risk items.
  • Provide commissioning, startup/performance test and troubleshooting support either remotely or in the field.
  • Have good problem-solving abilities, be ambitious, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills enabling you to work well within a multi-disciplinary design team located in multiple geographies and to liaise directly with suppliers and clients.
Desired skills, experience, and attributes:
  • A bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of HyCO design experience preferred.
  • Product based approach to design.
  • Proficient with Aspen or similar simulation program.
  • Capability to read and understand P&IDs.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis and Accident Investigation, as requested, for incidents.
  • Coordinate functional issues involving plant reliability, operability and maintenance, while providing technical liaison support to Global Operations.
  • Be willing to be cross-functional among other Process Technology functions (e.g., Process Safety, Process Systems, Process Controls, Start-Up).
  • Personal accountability as well as a willingness to ask for help when needed is important.
  • Ability to prioritize project commitments while executing multiple projects and other activities.
  • Able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the design of process plants.
