Salary:
Starting salary for the entry level position is $20.38/hr., starting salary for the senior level position $23.84/hr. Bilingual speaking employees assigned to a bilingual position will receive $1.00 per hour add-on pay. The entry level position is in Schedule and Range 12-06, senior level 12-08. A twelve-month probationary period will be required.

Special Qualifications:
Bilingual in English/Spanish Bilingual in English/Hmong are encouraged to apply and will receive $1.00 per hour salary add-on. An assessment with the ability communicate, read and write in Spanish or Hmong will be conducted prior to hire.

The Wisconsin Department of Corrections is seeking individuals who are interested in a career in criminal justice to join our team. Probation and Parole Agents are responsible for protecting the public and providing rehabilitative services to offenders. The Probation and Parole offices are located throughout the state and are separated into 8 different Regions. Please view the detailed listings of our probation and parole offices. The Regions are comprised of the following counties:

Region 1: Dane, Dodge, Grant, Green, Iowa, Jefferson, Lafayette and Rock; Region 2: Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth; Region 3: Milwaukee; Region 4: Brown, Calumet, Door, Kewaunee, Outagamie, and Winnebago; Region 5: Barron, Burnett, Buffalo, Chippewa, Clark, Douglas, Dunn, Eau Claire, Jackson, St. Croix, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, Rusk, Washburn, and Trempealeau; Region 6: Ashland, Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Marinette, Oconto, Oneida, Price, Sawyer, Shawano, Taylor, and Vilas; Region 7: Fond du Lac, Manitowoc, Ozaukee, Sheboygan, Washington, and Waukesha; Region 8: Adams, Columbia, Crawford, Green Lake, Juneau, La Crosse, Marquette, Monroe, Portage, Richland, Sauk, Vernon, Wood, Waupaca, and Waushara.

NOTE: This is a new recruitment which will be open for 3 months and only be used to fill the Agent Basic Training class starting July 26th, 2021. If you applied for a previous Probation & Parole Agent announcement, you will need to apply again in order to be considered.

Position Summary: Probation and Parole Agents are responsible for enforcing departmental rules, Wisconsin Statutes and conditions of probation and parole to protect the public and to provide services to rehabilitate offenders. Conduct investigations; develop, implement, and monitor offender case plans; conduct home visits; issue apprehension requests; locate, detain, and transport offenders who have violated conditions of supervision; conduct searches and seize contraband; collect urine samples for drug assessment; provide counseling; prepare written reports and maintain records. Provide surveillance of offenders through frequent contacts and electronic monitoring; respond to violations appropriately.

NOTE: As public safety employees, telecommuting is not an option for these positions. The Department of Corrections is still dedicated to protecting the health and well-being of our staff and persons in our care. Special Notes: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment.

Applicants must possess a current Driver's License and meet State of Wisconsin fleet requirements: 2 years of driving experience with a valid driver's license; did not receive a conviction of operating a vehicle while under the influence within the last 12 months; did not have three or more moving traffic citations* in the last 2 years. Please note, if your license is from a state other than Wisconsin or if you have held a driver's license from a state other than Wisconsin in the last two years, it may be beneficial to obtain a copy of your driver's license abstract. *or at-fault accidents.

Qualifications: Minimally qualified applicants for either level Probation and Parole Agent will have education, training and/or experience related to evidence-based practices, social work methods, case management techniques, assessing needs, interviewing, counseling and treatment techniques, victims' issues; criminal justice system; case planning; cultural awareness; family dynamics; effective oral and written communication skills; and problem identification and resolution techniques

In addition, minimally qualified applicants for the senior level position will have: Three or more years of experience in probation/parole placing correctional clients in detention including arrest, custody and transportation, case management and case planning, and applying Evidence Based Practices with persons on a caseload.
