Job Description

Exercises judgment where appropriate in managing and ensuring the efficient operation of the Printing Department. Held responsible for quality, equipment condition, safety, the efficient operation of the equipment and production scheduling and planning of product to be produced in the Printing Department. The printing manager is responsible for a 3 shift (7-3, 3-11, 11-7) operation with two presses, in addition to ink and the sheeting department. This position is a member of the site leadership team, and reports to the plant manager.

  • Responsible for the overall safe practices of the employees within their department.
  • Must have the ability to do all paperwork necessary for the job.
  • Must communicate production needs to supervisors and employees to meet the production schedule and deadlines.
  • Ability to measure the productivity performance of the individuals and crews in order to focus on maintaining and improving their performance.
  • Possess basic technical knowledge of the equipment in order to know the capabilities and limitations of the equipment in order to make sound trouble shooting decisions to meet quality and production goals.
  • Approve disciplinary measures when safety, quality, production, and other behavioral standards are not met.
  • Oversee the proper preventive maintenance and cleanliness of the machinery and department area.
  • Understand the workings of job jackets and how to transfer the information on the jackets into make ready and quality production activities.
  • Must be available to iron out discrepancies or misunderstandings of information on the job jackets.
  • Communicate with other managers in order to facilitate a better working environment and to better control problems (both technical and social) in safety, quality, production, raw materials, and behavioral standards.
  • Familiar with the documented ISO quality program, food safety guidelines and provisions of the labor contract as related to their department.
  • Provide or redirect qualified personnel to cover in the absence of key position holders where the food safety program must continually operate.
  • Responsible for carrying out any other management responsibilities as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to a positive and engaged workforce culture.


Required Skills
  • Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma continuing education preferred.
  • Technical and problem solving skills.
  • Must be a leader with exceptional communication skills, good organization, and the ability to motivate people to perform at high levels.
  • Must be quality conscious and customer oriented.


Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 - 5 years of supervisor experience in manufacturing required.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and project management skills.
