Principal Technician

The Principal Technician position will support our commercial roofing research team.

Responsibilities for this position include:

• Blending and formulating of membrane and adhesive compounds, including polymers, asphalts and additives.

• Performing mechanical property (such as tensile, tear performance) tests on experimental materials.

• Managing/conducting lab studies, directing their progress, maintaining lab records and reporting updates per accepted research lab practices and GAF protocols.

• Identifying and performing math calculations related to various tasks.

• Aiding in the improvement of product performance or reduction of cost by screening raw materials and additives, conducting lab work studies, developing new test methods with written SOPs, and participating in related special assignments as needed.

• Assisting in investigations of product and process problems related to raw materials and process upsets.

• Carrying out accelerated aging studies.

• Overseeing the preparation and shipment of chemicals/goods.

• Preparing JSA and SOP documentation.

• Participating in other duties as required.

Requirements:

• An Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or Materials Science Engineering.

• One to four years of related experience working in an industrial laboratory environment.

• Knowledge of analytical characterization and testing methods.

• Chemical and/or materials knowledge, processing knowledge a plus but not required.

• Statistical analysis or green belt certification preferred.

• Strong problem solving skills.

• Ability to summarize work/key conclusions and prepare reports.

• Capable of lifting objects up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to travel occasionally.
