Abbott Molecular has an opening in its Des Plaines, IL site for a Principal Project Manager in its Customer Advocacy (PMO).
Position Summary:
- The Principal Project Manager is responsible for providing project leadership and strategy for the Project Management (PM) function.
- Planning and execution of projects in support of Research and Development (R&D) and business objectives.
- Responsible for planning, communicating, coordinating, prioritizing and measuring the overall activities, effectiveness, and productivity of the product development and/or PM function. Assist management with resource planning, utilization, and justification of R&D business resources.
- Manage highly complex projects, or a combination of projects, or a project portfolio.
- Accountable to successful planning and execution of projects in support of Research and Development (R&D) and business objectives.
- Reports to Director of PMO
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
- Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the project management system.
- Provides project management support for research and development. Manages projects and/or assists project managers identify resource requirements, cost and time schedules.
- Develop an implementation plan, conduct risk assessments, and develop and implement contingency plans to allow for and accommodate unforeseen events and changes in strategy.
- Interface with other disciplines, customers, internal clients, project staff and internal and external experts as required.
- Prepare and present written and oral reports and other presentations to internal and external audiences.
- Interact with senior level management to reach agreement regarding significant program
- Accountable for the successful completion of project tasks on time and within budget.
- Accountable for managing resources (direct and matrix) assigned to project regarding project tasks.
- Maintains a list of R&D approved projects (for portfolio management). Performs analysis of reported resource plans against projects.
- Identify potential problem areas and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Provides leadership for project management and training of project managers.
- Takes a leadership position in establishing good project management practices
- Responsible for supporting and meeting departmental budget goals, including participation in financial planning cycles, such as one year and long rang plan.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU’LL BRING
Required
- Bachelor’s degree (±16 years) - in business, engineering, science, information systems or a
discipline closely related to the area served
- Minimum 9-10 years’ experience in a healthcare field
- Proficient in project management skills such as project planning and execution.
Preferred:
- MS/PhD/MBA degree
- PMP certification
- Knowledge and experience in both diagnostic and pharmaceutical development, clinical validations, and regulatory submissions.
- Experience in leading projects in a matrixed organization and in delivering results using influence without authority
- Prior project management experience, include the use of tools for creating and managing schedules, budgets, and resource plans
- Financial acumen with experience developing business cases, net present value analyses, etc. Experience with scenario planning as part of problem-solving process.
