A successful candidate will have a strong track record of translating business needs into solutions that scale technically and operationally and are focused on delivery of innovative and high reliability solutions. This role is cross-functional, existing at the center of one of Amazon’s most strategic business insights team. You will help define organizational-wide data strategy and data management practices. The candidate must have the skills to write documents that influence important investment and resource allocation decisions by clearly articulating the strategy, business impact, and technical challenges. You will define and build systems to ingest, store and analyze data from disparate sources (both internal and external). You will build a highly scalable framework that enables internal product teams in the Customer Experience Strategy org to use this infrastructure. The insights identified with this framework will reach all of Amazon businesses (e.g., Advertising, Consumer, Seller, Operations, Alexa, Music, Video, AWS) and drive strategic decisions that impact all Amazon customers.
As a Principal, you will have a key role in defining and delivering the trends service including collection of business and systems requirements, writing specifications, driving project schedules and development from design to release, as well as managing the production launch. You will partner with various product, analytics, and engineering teams to drive the technical program management and help develop the data science foundation needed for these activities. This includes working cross-functionally across the org to help build the data pipelines to ingest varied data sources, designing experiments and building models to test data signals, and defining UI to enable access to internal stakeholders for analysis. You will work with senior leaders and with multiple layers of engineers, product managers, and scientists across the Customer Experience organization. You will provide strong guidance to ensure the right technology and architecture decisions are being made and provide continuous product innovation to delight customers. You will develop operational plans, set and meet aggressive goals, including appropriate metrics and performance indicators that measure progress against goals. You will establish regular operational reviews and communications with key management as part of business and operational accountability and reporting.
A core challenge in this role will be balancing the tradeoffs between enabling experimentation in early stage product development, and developing a robust infrastructure that enables scale. A successful candidate will be a creative and experienced leader, able to provide organizational, operational, and architectural design leadership to an organization of product managers, engineers, scientists, and technologists. Curiosity, strong judgement, inventiveness, and a keen sense of ownership, drive, and scrappiness are critical characteristics.
