The Hermiston School District is seeking applicants for the Principal position, planning for Loma Vista Elementary School. Once completed, LVES will have the capacity to serve 600 students in grades K-5 with approximately 50 licensed and classified staff members.
The primary purpose of the position of Elementary School Principal is to serve as the instructional and cultural leader of the K-5 school, and as such, be responsible for the organization and supervision of the school’s educational program, operation of the school facility, participation in staff and student activities, and establishment of effective community relations.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher
- Valid Oregon administrative license or ability to obtain one prior to July 1, 2021
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Human Resources Department may find appropriate and acceptable
Preferred Qualifications
- Elementary teaching and/or administrative experience
- Successful Building-Level Administrative Experience as a principal, assistant principal or full time dean of students
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Experience working with diverse populations
Working knowledge of Professional Learning Communities (PLC's), Common Core Standards, Response to Intervention, Data Teams, and Elementary Literacy initiatives.
About the School:
Loma Vista Elementary School will be an additional school within the Hermiston School District, opening Fall 2022. The new, elementary school will be a ~73,500 square foot single-story building serving around 600 students in 24 classrooms, a library, gymnasium, multipurpose room, and other spaces. LVES will be located at NE 10th Street and East Theater Lane on undeveloped property. Site improvements include two new parking lots with drop off areas, a main entry plaza, a playfield, playground structures, and perimeter fencing.
About the District:
The Hermiston School District is the largest district in eastern Oregon, exceeding 5,600 students in grades kindergarten through 12, with the mission of serving the needs of all children with rigorous program choices, high expectations, mutual respect, and excellence. The school district includes a 9-12 senior high school, two 6-8 middle schools, currently five K-5 elementary schools, six with the addition of LVES, and a robust online learning program option for students and families.
Support for the school district has been strong from the community. In 2019 voters approved an $82.7 million building project, which includes replacement of Rocky Heights Elementary, construction of an additional elementary school (Loma Vista), and a multi-classroom annex of the high school, along with various district-wide renovations. The voters also approved a $69.9 million bond in 2008. which served to replace Armand Larive Middle School, West Park Elementary, and Sunset Elementary schools.
The District employs over 630 full time staff that includes approximately 365 teachers and over 265 classified, support, and supervisory personnel, making it one of the largest employers in the city of Hermiston. A nationally-recognized community that embraces its diversity, the district serves some 28,000 residents, where one-third of the population is Hispanic.
The school district prides itself on the academic achievement of its students, successful athletic programs, nationally-recognized club and activity organizations, and its exhaustive list of academic and elective opportunities available to students. The District’s partnership with community organizations has been central to its continued success, highlighted by support groups who have provided nearly a half a million dollars to assist students and programs through such venues as the Hermiston Sports Booster Club, Hermiston Education Foundation, Band Boosters, FFA Alumni, and the community sponsorship of the student homebuilding program, to name a few.
About the Community:
The largest city in eastern Oregon, Hermiston maintains over 18,000 residents and is located in northeastern Oregon, just south of the Oregon-Washington border. The Hermiston School District boundary encompasses over 150 square miles of the Columbia Basin region, whose unique geographical area offers an extended growing season and a variety of agricultural crops and products. The immediate Hermiston area has been able to diversify its economy with food processing, cold storage, warehousing and distribution facilities. Salary and Benefits:
The Hermiston School District offers an extremely competitive salary and benefits package which includes a generous allowance towards the purchase of group family health coverage (medical, RX, dental, and vision), employee life and AD&D insurance, District paid retirement (PERS and annuity), and monthly cell phone and travel allowance. Twelve (12) month position, including 9 paid holidays and generous vacation allowance. Salary Range: $104,373 - $124,736 depending upon experience. Salary range is based upon the 2020-2021 Administrative salary schedule.
