What’s the role?

As Data Engineer, you are expected to have hybrid skills combining data engineering, data visualisation

and information management skills with those of a business analyst.

In this role, you are accountable for the following:

  • Build trusted business relationships at Manufacturing sites, working closely with the business and Site IT to acquire domain knowledge and identify opportunities to turn data into critical information and knowledge that enables higher hands-on-tools time and supports sound decision making.
  • Deliver Data & Analytics knowledge sessions at M sites to improve adoption of Data Visualisation and Analytics tools - educate M sites on existing data analytics and data quality solutions - identify and address hurdles destroying value from data .
  • Fast track the first stages of bringing a site-initiated Data idea to market and guide, advise and support Citizen Developers to build optimal solutions on the MS Power Suite.
  • provide tool consultancy as well as education on publishing/IT processes and IRM compliant data access - work with other Site IT Advisors Data to increase replication potential across sites.
  • Deliver prototypes in support of Data & Analytics Ideation - Deal with large data sets from disparate sources often in different formats; cleaning, merging and consolidating them appropriately – identify where more expert IT support is required.
  • Identify Citizen Developed solutions and LMA’s which benefit from support from IT or even full transition to IT e.g. to improve end user experience and robustness as well as reducing data (IRM) exposure.
  • Support the business at site and the M Chief Data Officer in the implementation of the M Data Strategy – e.g. by defining and expediting data quality improvement initiatives - how to best organise / who to engage / which tools to use.
  • Work in close collaboration with the M Chief Data Officer and M Data Architect to recognise common themes and trends in site data consumption and help identify which (pre-calculated) data sets need to be made available by IT in the M Data Foundation for repetitive re-use by both Citizen Developers and IT.
  • Support the M CDO in implementing at site the Manage Information, Data and Systems guidelines of the RDS Asset Management System.
  • Support the site on Sharepoint activities by routing it to the right experts in Shell IT.

What we need from you?

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
  • IT background or business background with strongly developed IT skills.
  • Asset/refinery/Upstream knowledge.
  • The ability to deal with large data sets from disparate sources, cleaning, merging and consolidating data (data modelling and data engineering).
  • Proficiency in app development and data visualization – proven experience with the Power Suite (PowerBI, PowerApps, MS Dynamics, Flow, etc.)
  • Good communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
