The Primary Billing Specialist is responsible for billing claims to appropriate primary insurance companies (as well as secondary/tertiary on an as need basis) or governmental institutions.

• Determining primary and secondary insurance company responsibility
• Posting orders shipped before leaving for the day and before closing the day the following morning. This may require staying late on the last day of the month.
• Reviewing and approve charges in the billing queue
• Reviewing client charts to ensure accurate documentation and insurance provider responsibility
• Pushing charts from funding system into billing system
• Preparing and submit claims for electronic or paper processing to insurance companies or governmental institutions
• Balancing daily batches and run needed reports
• Printing and scanning proof of deliveries for each claim
• Following up on previously billed claims as required by departmental need
• Investigating and resolving billing errors and issues; rebill claims when necessary
• Contacting insurances for billing assistance and claim resolution
• Working with collectors, cash posters, and funding team when issues arise
• Alerting the Manager of Billing & Collections of potential billing/collection issues
• Completing returns and post in financial system
• Updating account notes to document billing actions and expected outcomes
• Researching and staying abreast of state, federal, and third-party funding regulations for assigned accounts ensuring billing and payment practices comply with third party payer requirements
• Acting as a back-up to secondary billers
• Properly documenting processes so that others can reperform them
• Providing training to others in the organization to help educate employees on the billing process
• Performing various other tasks as assigned

We are looking for someone who has:

• High School Diploma
• 2 or more years medical billing experience
• Knowledge of how payments are processed by insurance companies and an understanding of contractual adjustments and refunds preferred
• Knowledge of medical insurance claims procedures and documentation preferred
• Proof of covid-19 vaccination required
